Then it was time to play
Abandoned ski resort in south Dakota and Jeep rescue in my home town on the loup river

jasonh28 07-19-2012 02:29 AM

Plan was to play all summer then 5.3 swap over winter, then upgrade axles later on, but after rescuing my buddy out of the river, i got sand and water in my rear end, giving me a surprise going 65 down the highway

jasonh28 07-19-2012 02:37 AM

Ugh reached my quota on pictures? So no more till tomorrow our do i have to upgrade my account

qlfarm 07-19-2012 07:52 AM

Did it take the full 2 gallon kit for spraying the exterior?

jasonh28 07-19-2012 09:04 AM

Yup for interior and exterior

You have to use photo bucket

jasonh28 07-19-2012 10:16 PM

Thanks man, i took it to the Harley shop to get powder coated and he used a tougher epoxy style paint i guess, not a fan of chrome, have black door handles to put on yet too

jasonh28 07-19-2012 10:46 PM

okay, thanks for the photobucket tip, so anyways, driving home 1030 at night i my bearing blew apart on the passenger side, (guessing from sand and water from the river rescue) the whole thing slid out, causeing me to slide down the highway shooting sparks, that was just a few weeks agohttp://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/...-17-23_461.jpghttp://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/...er/shiiiit.jpg

jasonh28 07-19-2012 10:54 PM

which leads me to where i am today, doing a spring over and 8.8 swap just got all the perches/spring mount torched off and ground smooth, working on gathering brake parts at the moment

Soa is the project i have planned for my jeep after i get all the rust cleaned off and the bedliner on.. just one step at a time! And no problem about the photo bucket.. I'm not sure how that works.. it's stupid how you have a " limit"

jasonh28 07-25-2012 10:25 PM

Alil progress today, pulled the d35 threw some donuts on the 8.8 rolled it under and started lining it up, drive shaft might not be long enough it's cv but was stiff to slide out and dont think it will slide enough, the M.O.R.E 8.8 kit is pretty heavy duty. Had to grind the perches alil (less gap to fill while welding). Huge difference in height, this is with donuts on it and the 33s sitting next to it, so it will still be higher yet

Just putting the 8.8 made it higher?

jasonh28 07-26-2012 03:56 AM

I'm doin spring over axle at the same time, then pulling the front and doing the same

SOA with 3" suspension springs is going to put you pretty high!!! SOA typically yields 5 inches of lift with stock springs. Plus you'll gain a little extra height in the rear with the 8.8 having a larger tube diameter. You might want to loose that 2"BL.

jasonh28 07-26-2012 09:05 AM

Yeah not a fan of body lift s anyhow, and soa Adds like 5.5 -6 inches of lift plus my 3 inch springs is bout 9 inches, the 8.8 adds 5/8 due to thicker axle tubes and i think the body lift is 2 or 3 inches haha, i really didn't need to do it but, go big or go home

What are you putting in the front?

jasonh28 07-26-2012 09:40 PM

Keepin the Dana 30 for now i guess

So the rear is the most important? Could you rub 35s on a regular dana 30 in the front

jasonh28 07-27-2012 12:40 AM

I think it will be fine for awhile its pretty mild off roading in Nebraska i know the 5.3 will break it so i might build a 44 over winter

jasonh28 07-28-2012 08:24 AM

Found an NV4500 4x4 5 speed Trans near by for 500 with bell housing, and clutch might go grab that for the 5.3 build

jasonh28 07-30-2012 11:18 PM

my welding is alil rusty, only do it about once every 6 months maybe, but got the perches tacked, double checked the angles on both, and the passenger side is alil off so i set the angle to match dirvers side, and burned them in, then i noticed my springs set slightly different, i dont know if its because of what looks like a previously broken and re welded shackle, or just old springshttp://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/...-45-25_320.jpghttp://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/...-44-23_301.jpghttp://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/...-44-09_619.jpghttp://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/...-42-05_552.jpg
