Bumper Hoop

I would like some additional protection up front and found this:

http://www.redjeepclub.com/hooptjm.php

What think ye? I'm not interested in aux lights or buying a new bumper - just a hoop for a little protection. I wonder how this would hold up if I hit a 150# deer?

depends on how fast the deer is going..... and how fast you are going....

The deer is moving laterally across the road at 14.7 mph and I am traveling in 4th gear at my usual oldman speed of 36.5 mph. It's dark out and my crappy headlights aren't helping much. The weather is light rain and 45 degrees. I strike the 150# buck dead center of my bumper. Now, would that leaner hoop keep keep the big fella off my windshield or not?

its the same one i run.. except i paid 65 shipped to my door off of ebay.. it took him 2 weeks to make it after i won the auction..

no problems with it yet.. and if you hit a deer.. the bolts will probably give before the bar does.. either way it will still be less damage if you hit him with the bar on the bumper than without.. also it will probably keep him from flipping up on the hood too (had this happen once lol)

i got it when i was drunk and went offroading and trashed my front fenders and grill up a little bit.. and ever since then with the bar on ive never had ne damage done to the front.. and ive only gotten wilder with my offroading

Thanks MoA! I was hoping for an actual testimonial. Good looks and functional too. I'm sold.

I've been looking. It's just so confusing. Xenon?, Halogen?, H4?. Then which brand? Delta? Rampage? Some other? I know there's a thread on this somewhere. I'll look harder.

IPF X51 Fat boy Xenon Bulbs H4

dpgoffroad.com has em.. the bulbs and the new housings

also i agree.. that stinger is UGLY.. its tooo big too.. especially on a stockish jeep, and also 3x as much

I'd be willing to bet a 150 pound deer would torch that hoop in a heartbeat, and still end up in your lap... as far as lights go, I went with the Hella 500's- cheap, easy to install and bright as hell.

I just did a forum search. Sounds like you're right, the IPF and Fatboys are the way to go. $$$$$$ Hard to put a price on good visibility I guess. But since I'm cheap - I'll probably go with the Sylvanias, Hellas, or something in the $20 -30 range. Anythings gotta be better than the stock crap lights.

My formula is asking how many points the buck has to determine exact damage.. :D :D:D

DiPietro 04-12-2008 09:48 PM

I just found this on Ebay, search this part number
Item number: 200214739214

AzTJ 04-12-2008 09:56 PM

Nice find. Thats not a bad deal really. The welding looks to be decent and the tabs are welded on both sides, thats a plus.

Thats still $250 that can be used to build your own set of front and rear bumpers... if you can weld.

DiPietro 04-12-2008 09:57 PM

I know, maybe I shouldnt have shared it as it's the only one on there and I need one :D:D j/k

heres the picture to save the search

honestly, get it the first time and be done with it. you will get something cheap, in few months you will want to go with better..

Bump the bumper hoop:

Ordered it. How strong are the T55 torx bumper bolts? Thinking about replacing them with 3" Grade 8 bolts. Probably worth the buck each or so.

GrnTJ 04-15-2008 03:32 PM

Cant beat grade 8's!:D
