Best Tan Dye for Rubber Fenders?

1 Attachment(s)
Hey all,

I'm pretty new to the Wrangler forum so forgive me if this is in another thread.

But does anyone know what the best dye is for the tannish Sahara rubber fender?

I saw on Amazon the "Forever Black" dye, but I can find one that works on the Sahara.

Thanks in advance!!

Dave

I'm not sure of the name of it, but Auto Zone has a vinyl spray in different colors that I used on my roll bar pads. They were tan and made them black. That might work. It says you can use it on dashboards and such.

Krylon makes a plastic paint as well. I think its called Fusion and I have seen it at auto parts houses as well as Wally World.

I was looking into this before just picking up a new set and some paint... you can you Acetone and elbow grease to rub the 'fading' out of the flares. If you do decide to paint I've read you need Adhesion Promoter and primer for the rubber. You can get it from Amazon but its not really cheap - like $24 for a can of each. From there you can paint it any color... I'm sticking with the OEM 95 Sahara green for mine.

Oh, one other method... if you look on YouTube there are a couple guys who use blowtorches to bring back life into their fenders. They just run the butane torch over the flare for a bit. I tried this initially but because of the paint that was on it from the factory it didn't work and I wasn't about to spend a week sanding them only to repaint. Quadratec has a set of 4 flares for like $85 no shipping so it was worth it for a new set.

I bought a can of adhesion promoter for only $6.00 or $7.00 at either Home depot or NAPA (I don't remember which). I used it to paint the Bushwhacker flares on my F-150. Home Depot has Rustolium paint with the primer already in it. They have a pretty good selection of colors too.

If you don't use the adhesion promoter you run a great risk of the paint peeling.

Post some pics when you are done.

Good Luck, L.M.
