Rugged ridge sye...

By good or don't bother?

Thanks for the help

SYE kits all seem to be pretty good, haven't heard any complaints with any brand like that.

I had a warranty issue with them but had no troubles getting it straightened out. The only thing I will tell you to do if you get the RR SYE.... Buy a National seal #3946 for the rear output BEFORE you install the SYE. Most if not all of the RR SYE output seals leak from the first or second day. Change it out from the start and save the headache of doing it later all for about $6

Yep I agree with TnDz, can't tell ya how many RR SYE's i've seen on here with leaky output seals.

I have a RR SYE, no issues.

Good for you! You are one of many that have. No... Not meant sarcastically either.

I would go Tom Woods all the way

Wesboy 08-01-2012 04:44 AM

Had my RR SYE installed about 18 months ago - no probs.

Redsand 08-01-2012 05:09 AM

Had mine 4 or 5 years, no issues

Anyone running the mega short?

coley 08-01-2012 06:54 PM

Yeah, I am. I had issues with the tone ring slipping and making my speedo wacky. Took me awhile to find out I just need to tighten the output nut. Some needed a shim that RR will supply. Other than that, no leaky seal yet. It came with my Jeep and I heard others are better, but it works.

My RR SYE leaks. I just ran into a problem with my SYE - The cover near the speedo is the incorrect apparently. My speedo gears are all chewed up. (not fitting correctly ) I don't know if Desert Rat messed up the install or I was supposed to buy some extra parts or what.Anyone else have this issue (TJ)

Wesboy 11-13-2012 06:34 PM

I've ran 3 different size speedo gears in my RR since I've had it and they have all been fine.

Ensure the alignment marks on the speed housing that holds the gear is in the correct position in relation to the alignment mark on the SYE housing AND you have them aligned to the right number of speedo gear teeth as embossed on the speedo gear housing. If they are off.. you will chew gears.
