Anybody have Rugged Ridge Quick Release Mirrors? Please Help!
So, I'm looking to buy side view mirrors for my JK so that I can enjoy driving it with the doors off. Recently, I purchased a Lange Quick Mirror I from Quadratec, and I must say that I was very disappointed. It was poorly designed, and it would not stay on the door hinge properly. I've since returned it, and I'm now searching for another mirror.

Anyway, I stumbled across the Rugged Ridge line of mirrors, and from what I've read, the quick release mirrors are a good buy despite minor problems like having them occasionally fold in at highway speeds.

Can any RR mirror owners give me a review of these mirrors?

Finally, and most importantly, on each website I've found them, it gives vague descriptions of what is included when you buy a kit. I've heard that it comes with a padding or gasket that will prevent the bracket from scratching the paint, but I've also heard from other sources that it doesn't come with something like that.

Any help with this topic would be greatly appreciated!

I run my RR mirrors all the time, even with the doors on. I did have the driver side close in on the highway the other day. I just hopped out and tightened it down as much as I could. The only issue I can really say I've had is bumping the mirror and it getting all out of whack. Just tighten the screw up on the back of the mirror to fix it. They also whistle, but who really cares?

As for parts, I remember a bracket with pad, mirror, and bolt to hold it all together.

Sounds awesome, thanks for your experience!

Also, do you remember where you bought them? My go-to site is Quadratec, but for one reason or another, they don't have any.

I think I got mine off eBay. I ended up paying only $35 or so for mine.

I run mine with my 1/2 doors and love them. If you run half doors, the windows will hit them if you open the door all the way. Mine have folded on the highway until I added a washer to the top of the bracket. They do come with the padding and are easy on/off. I did Plasti Dip the backs of my mirrors as they have gold parts that stick out out like a sore thumb! Got mine at Quadratec.

mine have never folded in but I crank them pretty tight. They do get bumped and need to be adjusted every once in a while but no biggie. I set mine so they are a little further back and the half doors don't hit them...the soft doors do though since they have no strap. I have never noticed a whistle either, might be because I replaced the mirror portion with convex ones from O'Reilys.

Wondering about the design with the metal bracket mounted right on the windshield frame, metal to metal. Anyone add a rubber pad or something, but then wouldn't that trap moisture and cause rust? Just thinking out loud...

The mounting bracket has a foam pad. I like mine, no folding (yet) and no whistling. $49.99 a pair from Morris 4x4.

Ok so I just got my RR mirrors and i have tightened the quick release bolt as tight as possible but the mirror still moves. What have you done to not have it move?

Mine came with the padding.

I really want to like these mirrors, but they need some fine tuning. They fold in at highway speeds, and no matter how tight you get them, they still move a little. They should have cut the grooves inside deeper to prevent them from moving.

My plan is to cut a small piece of intertube or rubber to put between the bracket and the mirror arm to give it a grip and hopefully keep from folding in.

Also, bought mine on amazon.

I originally bought these with the round mirrors (didn't know they offered square ones) but I found the round ones to be too small for my tastes - I've since replaced the mirrors with some square CJ replacement ones and I'm much happier...

TL;DR - buy the RR with the big square mirrors if you actually plan to use them for visability IMHO :)
