Major improvement. I can't believe. How much a little paint did. I couldn't stand the cheap chrome look. What do you all think?

Kentuckytj 08-02-2012 07:42 PM

Looks great!! I did mine too when I painted my grille.

dabolt55 08-02-2012 07:44 PM

Looks good, you'll be painting the grill next.

99tj707 08-02-2012 07:49 PM

I re sprayed my flares as well. I'm a little nervous about painting my grill. I think I might leave it like this for awhile. Do you have pics of yours?

I think it's a great idea! Now I want to get gasket material to outline the blinkers :)

I found a grill pic for you (on this post), and if you use plasti-dip, which comes in a spray can, you can peel it off if you decide you don't like it!

99tj707 08-02-2012 08:58 PM

That looks great. I probably will spray mine after I redo the half doors and hard top.

scwalls 08-03-2012 08:38 AM

Oh, I like the red. Pops nicely.

I initially resisted painting mine black b/c I thought they'd give the Jeep a 'racoon' look, but was quite happy with it after deciding to make the plunge. Even the GF (who's generally disinterested my tinkerings) said they looked dramatically better in black.

BamaRolln 08-03-2012 08:43 AM

The black around the lights looks really good. DONT paint the grill. To each his (or her) own but that doesn't look good IMO. But then I absolutely HATE black rims so......

Dragonii 08-03-2012 08:50 AM

If you don't like the black grill you can just peel it off. It only cost about 10 bucks and takes about an hour.

I painted mine and the ring that hold the bulb in and the grill. I didn't want any bling up front

did you just use regular spray paint for that?

buster-717 12-09-2012 05:43 PM

i painted mine back and my tj is black so it looks great. i used rattle can paint then sprayed clear on them a year ago and still looks great.

Randens Rubi 12-09-2012 05:47 PM

Sprayed mine with Plasti dip along with the grill and hood. I like it. :)

I think blacked out bezels make a WORLD of difference....

Another subtle painting is the retaining rings on the headlamps.... makes a cool difference! A quick shot with Rustoleum after a scuff with a 3M pad...

before and after..

Moose-Island 12-11-2012 08:09 PM

I had mine painted body color - very pleased with the result.

ajp197 12-11-2012 08:35 PM

I did mine body color also. I did not want the black eye look (did the grille inserts body color too)

Did my headlight bezels about a week ago with some krylon spray paint. Couldnt take the Fake chrome either.

Not sure I wanna do the grill too, but its in my mind.

How does the Plasti-dip stuff hold up with washes? Does it have a texture to it?

Also thinking of doing the middle of the hood as well. Think that looks awesome!

I just installed grill inserts like these. How do you get to the hood latch on yours?

Pink_Percy 02-17-2013 08:06 PM

I bought the black bezel about 5 yrs ago and their still perfect. A buddy of mine didn't want to spend the $30 bucks for them so he has since spray bombed his bezels at least a dozen or so times from chipping costing about $50 in paint.

Yes, black flows with most. Everything on my jeep was black, except for the chrome headlight trim rings, lug nuts and wheels. So, trim rings and wheels went to the dark side. Left lug nuts and center caps left alone.
