Tires for off roading

I just bought an 03 tj, and I wanted to take it off road. There's no mud where I am, so I won't be mudding.
Can I go off road with stock tires, or do I need to buy special ones? And what do I need to do to prepare my jeep for it if anything?
Thanks!

Had my 2000 out many times. Running 30x9.5x15s and havent had any issues. This biggest issue you'd have IMO is bottoming out n getting stuck up. I always like to have extra fluids and a tow rope at least if ur out w other wheelers.

Stock tires are fine but not the best preformance wise. Have tow straps and have someone go along with you. Access obsticals before going over them and see if you can make it so you don't tare anything up. A stock jeep can go a long way.

What's the main thing I should worry about, puncturing a tire or clearance?

It really depends on what kind of offroading you do. What is the terrain like where you live? For instance, my area has lots of sharp rocks, so tires that are more resistant to puncturing is a pretty high priority.

Skid plates on places like oil pan and steering box, and some BFG A/T 30" to 31" Max. My friend runs 31" on his stock tj, but not sure about width
