upgraded dash unit compatible with SAT Radio

hi,

I wish i had the money at the time to upgrade my audio in my jeep at purchase, but i had to settle with the stock audio ( no woofer) . I plan to upgrade in steps to something like the upgraded double dash head unit. My question pertains to aftermarket units,

With most of these units you need 2 sirius sat parts to make them work, one is i guess an encoder, and the other is a universal sirius kit. this universal kit says it includes a satellite antenna. Is it possible to use my normal antenna to make this work ? or will i have to run another antenna out to get Sirius ?

SIRIUS Dock-and-Play Package for JVC Control your Dock-and-Play SIRIUS radio from your JVC car stereo at Crutchfield.com

that is the link to the kit that it said i needed, I am looking at a JVC doubledin unit.

Thank You

Sorry if this is a little cryptic

Looks like that would work .when i had my portable unit in my tacoma i had the basic sirius radio hooked up to the head unit wich was a pioneer .it had an aux input in the back so i ran the wire from there to the sirius unit .had to ran antenna to the outside and find a 12 volt source for the unit ..DONT cut the 12volt plug and splice it in .you will fry the unit

yes you can use the factory antenna. it may require removing the plastic connector end that surrounds the sat antenna. to do this there is a white insert that must be slid out of the sat radio antenna connector end then the entire plastic housing around the connector can be unclipped off the metal cylinder sat radio connector.

second, that jvc adapter you are looking at is a sirius interface. what exact model jvc unit are you looking at? if the jvc says "siriusxm ready" then you need a (sxm v200) module available at most car audio shops. if it says "sat radio ready" or "sirius radio ready" or "xm radio ready" then you can use the adapter you listed from crutchfield.

let me know which exact radio you're looking at and i can point you in the right direction. the connector i'm talking about is below... this is not a jeep/chrysler exact part, but it looks almost identical... you can remove the white insert on the side then you can remove the entire yellow housing. the remaining round silver connector plugs directly into the V200 satellite module.... just carefully mount the v200 box to avoid damaging the antenna connector and you're good to go.

I am kinda all over the place with what radio i'm looking at. And now that my jeep is stuck in the shop until they fix the hardtop wiring issues i'll have to put this on hold.

Cool to know that i don't need to run a new antenna, i was worried about that.. I PM you 7ekken when this stuff gets cleared up. thanks
