Quick winch question

Very simple, just wondering, would a 6,000 lb. winch be enough for a wrangler?

Technically yes it could pull a Wrangler, but if you ever get in a spot where you are in need of it. I don't think you would be very happy with a 6k winch.

x2...

8k is a good place to start. Keep an eye out if you don't want to spend the $$$ on a new one. They pop up on ebay and the boards quite often. I am in search of one myself ;)

Alright, thanks guys, I figured as much, I just wanted to make sure. 8k it will be, if ever haha

Don't look past the 8 or 9K winches at Harbor Freight - they vary from about 300 to 400 bucks. I have a 2nd generation winch 8K HF winch (REP 8000) I've gotten a chance to use several times now - it's worked flawlessly so far, just the line-speed is a bit slow.

The rule of thumb on a winch is vehicle weight times 1.5. 6K would pull your TJ on flat ground without a problem, but remember, when you need a winch, you are usually one step from screaming and pulling your hair out. ALSO remember that winch ratings are usually based on the LAST wrap of wire on the drum.

got my raymart on ebay 10000lb with roller fairlead and plate for 550. works great on my rig. Good luck.

Remember every time you add a block it doubles the strength.

I deal with milemarker alot myself. Used them in the military and am running a 12k on my truck. When i add the winch bumper to the jeep ill run a 9kse or 9500. In the suction mud i run in you have to at least double your vehicles weight, and most of the time no where near enough to any anchor points to double the cable or syn line back.

winch question

your winch is not an area you want to skimp out on I would recomend a good quality warn winch. I got mine from a company out of New Jersy they offered free shipping and no sales tax because I was out of state. I went with a Warn XD9000I on my jeep tj, it has 125' of cable and a roller fairlead for $795.01. Here is the web site www.autopartsauthority.com
