From larger to smaller tires

I apologize in advance for any ignorance. I have a 4 cylinder, 2001 Jeep Wrangler 5 spd manual. It has about a 3in.-4in. lift and the tires specs are: 33 x 12.5 OR15L7 108 R M+S. My Jeep, currently, is very slow in acceleration. It seems to struggle at highway speeds and I don't push it past 60 mph. It is fine on residential roads but I think the bulky tires are slowing it down on the interstate/highway. I rarely take it off road (the previous owner did take it off road frequently), the treads are almost worn out, and I'm just looking for a good tire replacement that will get me better mpgs and something that will make my Jeep a little faster. I would like the same tire height, just skinnier, I guess. Also, would I have to buy new rims if I did get skinnier tires? I guess the rims would have to match specifications for new tires.I'm assuming that the axles will need to be re-geared as well. Any information would be really helpful. Thanks!

Going down to 31s might look a little funky at 4" of lift. To be honest, the biggest thing you can do is regear and thats about it.

Thanks for the info

Get some 32x11.5 tires if you want to go skinner. That's what I'd do. Also make sure you do a full tune up and make sure there are no other problems causing you to lose power.

What gearing do you have? Cause I have the 4cyl, 4.10 gearing, with 35x14.5(!!!!) and while it sometimes struggles to accelerate, yours sounds much worse. Which doesn't make much sense unless you have 3.07s and/or some power issues.

Didn't the 2.5L (4cyl) come with 4.10s? I'd try a lighter tire, the Goodyear Duratrac in the 33x12.5x15 is one of the lightest tires you'll find in that size. also when you mount it on a 15x8" wheel it actually measures 32x11.50. I have them on my TJ. also lighter wheels will help, what kind of wheels are on there now?
