tail gate hinge issue

Okay so I am putting my after market tire carrier on last night.. which went fine. but I notice the lower stock tail gate hinge is really binding up when I open or close it. I went to remove it off the jeep and of course the torq's rounded out.. ugh.. anyway...anyone have any advise on what may be causing this? It appears there is a pin that might be able to be banged out but its most likey fused in there with my luck. thanks!

Before you put on your aftermarket spare tire carrier where you running your 33's/35's (sorry can't tell size from your avatar) on the stock tire carrier? I run my 35 inch spare on there and I have started to notice a slight bow to the tailgate because of the added weight after about a year and a half.

Nope biggest tire on the stock carrier was a factory 30" GSA. After looking it over some more. I poured some CLR liquid cleaner on it, it seems to have helped a bit, but there is a ton of crude built up around the bottom hinge area. the top hinge unit moves freely, so I am living on with for now.

From what I understand this is a from the factory issue. The pin is a different kind of metal than the hinge and they ALWAYS end up binding up due to a galvanic reaction. The only true way to fix it is to replace it.

Mine was bound up for several years. I tried all kinds of lubes. . . no help. Then one day the shards of a plastic washer fell out onto the ground. No more binding.

Apparently, the design idea was to prevent hinge wear and rattling.

Might be karma.
