Flat Pull Behind - Hitch Help

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,

I just bought this Jeep and was told that the prior owner had flat towed it. It was a screamin' deal because I bartered it down pretty far so I didn't focus too much on the front bumper configuration. However, one of the key reasons I bought this is to pull behind my class-c RV.

Can some of you that have set up your Jeep for towing please look at the picture and let me know if I can use the current configuration to pull this behind my RV? I'd appreciate any information that you can share.

Thanks,
Jason

Here is my Flat Towing thread that might give you some ideas: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/sett...ow-136535.html

As it is, I would say no. Our tow bar uses the reciever of the motor home and has two connection points about frame with apart on the jeep. You just have a reciever hitch in the front.

It looks like your jeep was set up to pull something backwards....like launching a boat or pulling it out of the water.

There are lots of great towbars systems to choose from.

Do you think I can mount a tow bar system into the current hitch that's on the front of the Jeep? Anyone?

I would not, your tow bar needs to be attached at two (2) points on your jeep to track proper with the tow vehicle and to provide a safe hook up between the two vehicles. The PO may have used the receiver that's on there now for a winch or to spot a trailer. Be safe and tow it correct, not real sure your insurance would pay a claim with out having the proper tow equipment in case something were to happen!!

My guess is that the PO used a tow bar in reverse so that the bar would stay attached to the jeep instead of the motorhome. In theory it would work if you had a strong attachment for the tow bar on the motorhome bumper, but my motorhome bumper is fiberglass and the hitch is WAY stronger. I wouldn't consider running it backwards.
