Stupid Gauge issues

So driving along today.. and thump.. all the gauges go out... when i flick on the head lights they come back for a little.. then off again.. the air bag light also came on.. is there a way to tell why the air bag light came on? and whats the issue with the lights turning on making the gauges work? ground problems? all the lights on the ddash work fine.. blinkers, high beam indicator all that fun stuff.. any thoughts?? thank you jeep friends

Sockets behind the gauge cluster need to be cleaned. Remove the facia, remove the instrument cluster, clean with CRC contact cleaner, reinstall, should fix it. Known problem in Jeeps. Plugs and sockets are self docking, don't force them when putting it back together. You might even want to put some dielectric grease on them before reassembly.

Disconnect the battery and let it sit for 30 minutes before starting, chance are the air bags won't go off but why take chances.

Did you remove and clean or did it just 'magically' fix itself, if the magic thing happened it won't last for long...

Make sure you did not bend any pins when putting it back in. Jeep actually has a TSM on that, it calls for replacing the docking plugs behind the dash, my 3 jeeps that did it were fixed by the clean and put it back in method.

i have cleaned and cleaned and scrubbed and cleaned and washed some more.. and i get about 5 min and then they all go out.. somtimes turning on the lights helps but only for mere seconds... anything else i can do. ?

You know I have had that problem before with another car of mine. Come to find out my ground wires somehow snapped and made my gauges flicker on and off. When i turned my lights on it got worse. The circuit ended up going into the throttle cable and burnt the rubber onto the cable and my throttle got stuck. Had to replace the throttle cable and then add a ground wire to the frame and one to the transmittion. Might want to check and make sure you have enough ground going to your battery before you have the same problem. Dont know though, could be a totally different issue...
