I am looking at setting my TJ with a 2" Budget Boost. It will be used for weekend off-roading and weekly road driving with 30" tires (moving to 31" when these wear out). The 2" spring spacers do not appear too different from companies. But what about the shocks? What are the differences? What would give me my 2" extra length and also provide a good ride for a DD?
Skyjacker Hydros, Nitros, RE Twin Tube, RE Mono Tube, Rancho RSX, RS5000, OME,....
I had rough country shocks.. those suck.
Now i have OME shocks. I love them.
Shocks are what will mostly determine how smooth your jeep rides.
You can also use stock shocks for up to 2" however they will end up being short when flexing.
Spend the extra cash and get monotube shocks. OME makes some really good ones, and so do other companies like Rubicon Express and Full Traction. It'll be night and day compared to stock or regular aftermarket shocks. I'm running stock shocks on my Jeep with a 2" BB right now and it rides like ass. Scout from the forum sold me some OME monotube long travel shocks a couple of months ago that I need to install when I get my suspension installed. Trust me, spend the extra cash and you won't regret it.
Just some advice. If $ is an issue (as if it isn't always, huh?) then go with anything other than Rough Country.....they're just as bad as stock, maybe worse (from what I hear...I don't have any experience with them but have heard lots of bad press about their shocks).
I had RCs, they rattled my jeep since they rode so hard. They rusted in about 4 months of NON OFFROADING use (no scratches). Because they were so hard they did not alow the axle to move up and down freely on holes in the ground so my jeep was actually bouncing around instead of having its tires on the ground.
I just talked to some guy from RC and my seller on a conference call and I'm trying to return the RC kit to RC and get it out of my hands.
The reason why you dont see any bad reviews on the RC kits on websites that sell them is because they simply see it's a bad review and delete it. Thats why i purchased it in the first place because of the many good revies and no bad reviews.
i have the skyjacker hydros and love them. they are really soft, flex great on the trail. and they are cheap
RE monotubes.. and i LOVE them..
a buddy runs the ome on his jeep and they are pretty much the same..
you can get them for different lift sizes..
i recommend calling dirk at dpgoffroad.com and he can help you get what you need..
i believe i got my shocks shipped to my door for 270
