I'm looking for some rear bumper pics without tire carriers. Let me see what you have as I'm looking for some ideas.

Here's mine. But it's coming off soon and I'll just have a piece of 2x4 tubing inbetween the frame rails.

If I wasn't thinking of getting a tire carrier, I was gonna get something like Jack's current one.

Thanks! That's the style I'm looking for.

Scout, I wonder about you. You're enjoying looking at guys rear ends way too much.

if thats the style your looking for then look at the currie also. it looks very very similar although im not sure if you can get it with shackle tabs

Scout 04-27-2008 01:17 PM

I love the Currie but it doesn't come with the shackle mounts. If it did then I would have already bought it.

I have a 1/4" steel 2x4 welded between the frame rails in place of the stock 1/8" rear crossmember.

my plans are for a comp cut someday. The main purpose was to get rid of the tire carrier that would drag all the time on steep approach angle ledges

But you don't have to spend alot of money for custom work or new bumper right away. Just remove the rear bumper and bolt a tow hook or two to the outside of the rear frame rails

I agree, the rear bumper takes a lot more hits than any other spot on the jeep. I'll take functional over pretty any day here. I wish I didn't weld the receiver on mine I'm always smacking that thing.

That's the reason why I want to remove it. It seems to take more hits that anything else on the Jeep and for me it's unnecessary to have it back there. I haven't had the back seat in in two years so mounting the spare back there wouldn't be a problem.

My only question for for you is: What about the rear corners for now? I know you've taken a few hits to the corners and that's why I'm concerned about beating the tub up.

I'll comp-cut and stretch one day but it's probably a couple of years down the road.

Yep. I've already lost one of my gas can holders so I removed the other one just in case.

Thats what I was afraid of so when I built my rear bumper I put the hitch tube in the center.
