C-clip axles?

Do 99 Tj's come with c-clip style axles, or not?

wheelin352 04-27-2008 09:03 PM

if its a dana 35 then yes its got a c clip if its a dana 44 then no

tobycat1 04-27-2008 09:07 PM

Dana 35 and 30.

4.0l sahara 04-27-2008 09:22 PM

the d35 is c clip and the d44 is a semi floating axle.

And the front Dana 30 is not a c-clip.

really crap, if this is true what do I need to know when trying to install a detroit locker in my dana 44. What do I need to do to get the axles out?

The D44's axle shafts slide right out once you remove the four bolts that hold it to the axle flange at the end of the axle tubes. You can get to those four bolts once the brake assemblies are removed.

Do you know what you're doing installing a Detroit Locker? Do you know how to set the backlash of the ring & pinion gears that is required after installing a Detroit Locker?

4.0l sahara 04-28-2008 06:25 PM

imo if you don't know how to remove the axle shaft without asking then you shouldn't be installing a locker or gears.

I'm having a friend do it $100 an axle for gears and lockers if I get lockers. The reason I ask is to get a locker off ebay.

While were on the subject, opinions about detroit tru-traks?

Sb5551 04-29-2008 08:03 AM

Yea, I know I shouldnt be asking questions like that if I am planning on installing it. Ive been a mechanic off an on for about three years. I know the theory, and I do have all the tools to do it to set the backlash and pinion turning torque and such. Plus my jeep isnt my daily driver, so I have to learn somehow.

Well its not a locker to start with. Its a very good limited slip. Far better than the jeep trac-lock. But not as good as a true locker.

C-clip axles, have a c-clip ( washer looking thing but in the form of a C) that snaps over the axle end and holds it in place. This is what the dana 35 has (although there is a non clip version) Looks sort of like below: (non jeep application)

Thanks, I know its not a locker. But an ARB is out of my price range, and I can't do the cheapo lockers that make noise cause I cruise and party in my jeep. No hot chicks like jeeps that sound like the back axle is breaking when they turn:banghead:
