Newbie With Some Question on Price
I am looking to purchase a 2004+ TJ Wrangler for some fun summer cruising at the beach fun and not as a daily driver. I have no intention of using it for hard core offroading.

I have been looking at an 05 Wrangler X with 13K miles on it. Has 6 cyl, AC, 6speed, 2" lift with newer rims and tires, cloth softop. What would be a good purchase price to offer for this model?

Also, I know I don't want a 4 clynd or a hardtop but any model/year that i should avoid?

Thanks in advance for any advice for this Jeep noob. Looking forward to joining the Wrangler world of ownership.

id have to say from a private owner, it would probably be about $16,500 depending where you live...i know thats about how much it would go for around me in NY

Watch for rust, if you are up north!! / 13K is low for an '05, very nice find I'd say. Pics are always good, got any? I'd also say that price would depend, somewhat, on what part the country your in. I almost bought a '05 Red Rubi for $13,000 last year, (couldn't afford it, and didn't want to part with mine). I don't recall the mileage but it had to be high. No mods done to it, so.... hope that helps. 16,500 seems in the ballpark, sure.

where in mass are, u and what beaches do u go on?

id say it would go about 16K-17K
edmunds says a stock jeep of that year and mileage and outstanding shape would go private party for 15,880 so with the tires chrome, new wheels etc, 16,500 would be a good price and 16K a deal, and 15K a steal

if that jeep has been on the cape its whole life I would be wary of rust, It may be a smarter decision to buy from somewhere outside the 128 belt b/c less salt and humidity in the air and less rust,

however if you look RREEALLLYYY closely at everything even underneath etc. and there's no rust (well there gonna be surface rust surface rust of course, but no flaking etc) then I'd buy it

Go to and plug everything in.

Hope it works out for you. Then you can hang with us.

Well, you can hang with us anyway, you'll just have more money in your pockets until you land a heep.

I am in the north shore in Mass. I have a summer house at Salisbury beach, but I have never owned a jeep before so have not driven on the beach up here. This jeep is located in Indiana. Pics have shown no visible rust - plus I would have a PPI done.

Where can I find some good local off roading clubs in Mass/NH?

debruins 04-28-2008 10:38 PM

why buy it from indiana, there are plenty here?
im not sure about clubs ill do a search for you, they wont let me join a club till im 21 b/c of insurance shit, its the most annoying thing ever, i don't know of any offroading places either, except for monadnock in NH and a few places in southern Maine,

all I know for beaches is Powder Point in Duxbury, but im sure there's stuff on the Cape that lets u drive on, thats just too far from my house

You are right. I have just been looking on the internet for Jeeps that I like regardless of location. I am going to pair down the location to more local so I can personally check it out. Would you go for an 05 X or a Rubi?

debruins 04-28-2008 10:43 PM

(southern NH)

debruins 04-28-2008 10:45 PM

hmm for what you're doing id go X, the rubi will mostly help only if you want to get reallly big tires or go rock crawling
for a little beaching and mudding an X is fine,
however if you have the money for a rubi it is the best jeep out there!

btw u want a jeep with the D44 rear axle, it will have a metal fill plug as opposed to a plastic one, and will be octagonal and not round shaped
besides the D44 and 6Cyl requirement its all taste for which jeep you want

StealthAWD 04-28-2008 10:49 PM

Hey, thanks man for those links! I did read about the D44 rear axle so i will definately get that. I may want to go rock crawling as I get into some off roading clubs, so I will also look at some Rubicons - thanks!

this jeep has been up for sale for almost 8 months,
id check it out, take it to a mechanic, if he says there nothing wrong with it, im sure you will get a good deal on it since its been so long, either that or the guy jsut loves his jeep and wont part for anyhting below his price
anyhow thats a sweet looking jeep ive been watching haha

a few more...

those are the few i picked out form the hundreds on a quick scan as being winners

debruins 04-28-2008 10:54 PM

debruins 04-28-2008 10:55 PM

btw i can search for less expensive jeeps but i was looking in the range of the jeep u posted
