Noisy brake pedal

My brake pedal rattles when I hit bumps, yes I have a 3" Lift and stiffer springs, but it still shouldn't make annoying noises. 2012 JKU, anyone having similar problem, or know of a fix? Dealer is clueless and blames the lift, but would replace the pedal under warranty, we both know this won't fix the problem. Suggestions please!

Can you make it rattle by hand? Is there play in the pedal bushings?

Yes I can get the noise by wiggling the pedal back and forth

I have a 2012 Rubicon with the same rattle pretty much since new. I thought it was something else until today I realized it was the brake.
If I put a little pressure on it from behind the rattle stops. Anyone with a fix for this?

Just wanted to update and see if anyone has an easy fix for this problem.

I have the same problem. I would assume that the bushings are crap and could be replaced??

Creepin__Jeeper 01-30-2013 06:53 PM

Same issue here on my 2012 JKU. It's been present since new just never paid it much mind, it is annoying when it starts shaking violently on older paved or cracked roads. I also have a lift on mine but I doubt they can say it caused it.

I will probably take it into the dealer soon for an oil change so I will have it addressed then.

Bring it back to the dealer, a lift has nothing to do with it. Probably a bad pedal or bushing/spacer

every single jk that i have seen does this new bushing or old

bump ..

Took mine to the dealership for the same issue .. they ordered some bushings and had me come in .. made me sit there for 2hr before telling me they will need my jeep for a day or two cause they will have to rip out the entire dash to replace the bushings.

Needless to say I haven't made another appointment because i don't want to forfeit my ride for 2 days and I don't want them ripping apart my dash and producing more rattles. Anyway have experience fixing this, do you really have to take apart the dash .. ugh

Fields jeep replaced the vacuum booster for the brakes. 30 minutes labor and the problem is gone.

UselessPickles 05-10-2014 03:52 PM

How was the vacuum booster the cause of rattling noises coming from the brake pedal?

Mine had a slight rattle and a rubber on rubber squeak.

Mine does this 2012 with 21k, checked my friends 2014 with 7k on it and same wiggle.

The service manual says to remove the dash, but you don't need to. I recently replaced the bushings. It is a tight squeeze, and you have to work one-handed, but it can be done.

FWIW, I found that one of the retaining rings was missing, and there were metal fragments (which probably caused the premature failure of the bushings). Also note that the diagram only shows 2 bushings. You need a total of 4 for an automatic.
