97 tj needs manifold

I have a cracked mani... There are several on ebay like this:

Dorman 674-225 Exhaust Manifold W/Gasket 2.5L 4713055 | eBay

Whats all the battle armor crap around it? It doesnt look compatible at all with the extra port thingy at the top.

And does anyone suggest one mani over another?
I read guys on here gettin 18+ mpg... I give anythg to to be in the 13-15 club!

I was flipping through a jeep mag awhile back and saw an add for the new banks header. From what i gathered from the add its soppose to be more resistant to cracking. Worth checking out. I think putting a flex pipe(if thats what they are called) on the y-pipe after it goes into a single pipe, would make a world of difference as far as cracked manifolds. But im no expert, and if that did work im sure everyone would be doing it.

I think I'm going to pick this one up. I read very good reviews about it on another sight.

I think the Banks model is for the 4.0.

Whoops. Assumed he was talking about a 4.0, never even looked at the link. My mistake....

Wow... How long were you gettin out of the ones from part stores? And were they cast iron or what?

SCBeachKop 08-23-2012 02:02 PM

manifold

The ones I got from the parts store either wouldnt seal around the exhaust ports, or some of the extra holes/ports would leak....generally just a bad casting. the one from the dealer didnt have extra/universal hole/fittings and fit like new. Some Jeeps dont seem to like aftermarket parts..:thumb:

So i finally got around to installed the mani this morning. Pretty simple process with the exception of now my jeep wont start. And suggestions? My dad said that timing for the old mani may have been adjusted so the engine would run so bad... Go figure..

miketx 08-30-2012 11:57 AM

Define "it won't start". If it ran before you changed the manifold, it should run afterwards....a new manifold won't make much of a difference on our Jeeps. I'd carefully check your work....go over every electrical connections/all wiring, including that you have the right injectors hooked up, no change on sparkplug wires, hoses, etc....to make sure everything looks ok

steveo8x8 08-30-2012 01:04 PM

Does ur jeep have an alarm system?? Mine has one and u have to push a button hidden under the dash to allow it to start if u ever disconnect the battery

It cranks (turn over) but wont start. I was extra careful to pay atten to detail of where everything went. Im looking into fuel related issues now. I dont get it. BTW... If i spray started fluid into the TB it tries to crank.

mickeygriffin 08-30-2012 05:18 PM

So I know now that Im not getting fuel. Also... (Im gonna fell very dumb if this is the problem) I wondering if I have enough power on my batt to start up. I had my radio going the entire install which was 2hrs maybe.

steveo8x8 09-02-2012 12:21 PM

Try jumping it. It cant hurt to give it a shot. Do u have an alarm system?

mickeygriffin 09-02-2012 12:32 PM

I dont have an alarm. Ive jumped to too btw. Im bout to roll this beesh next!

mickeygriffin 09-02-2012 12:36 PM

Wait... would the alarm be factory? I see no signs of one. It cranks but wont start. I feel like im not getting fuel or spark.

jasongreene43 09-02-2012 12:54 PM

Always disconnect your battery before working on or around electronic components.
Try to disconnect the bat and see if it resets.

steveo8x8 09-02-2012 02:31 PM

Ya the battery is probably ur best bet!

mickeygriffin 09-03-2012 05:20 AM

Bro(s) I give.... It's going to the shop!!

steveo8x8 09-03-2012 01:09 PM

Let us know what they say it was

mickeygriffin 09-05-2012 01:29 PM

It was the CPS... Have no idea as to why though.

mickeygriffin 09-05-2012 01:31 PM

In other news however... I dont think this thing has every sounded better!

mudslinger0 09-05-2012 01:42 PM

i replaced my broken one at autozone with a lifetime warrantied one for under $120

mickeygriffin 09-05-2012 03:31 PM

CPS or mani?

mudslinger0 09-06-2012 12:41 AM

I replaced my exhaust manifold at autozone with a
lifetime guaranteed one for 120.00 ish

mickeygriffin 09-06-2012 05:58 AM

I ordered the one from AM auto parts online for right under 90 (with gasket). With all the troubleshooting I had to do afterwards, I do believe Im qualify enough to say that Ima TJ manifold expert! lol
