Price Of TJ Hard Top

Is there an aftermarket place for buying a 2000 TJ Hardtop?
Or should I only buy OEM?

Either way, what is an average price?

I have been looking for a TJ, and I want it to have both tops.
Sometimes I find a good TJ, and the only thing holding me back is the lack of a hardtop.

I don't mind having to change the tops out, back and forth. I suppose it can be a little tiresome, but we get to drive a vehicle that allows us to have it all three ways. (Hardtop, soft top, or no top.)

Used OEM hardtops go for 800-1200 +/-. New are 2000 +/- plus shipping. Mopar, Keystone (Bestop molds), Bulldawg and there are a couple others. (do a google search on wrangler hardtop)

I wouldn't let the hardtop hold you back from buying a good Jeep. You can always pickup a hardtop later. Like Neil said 800-1200 range. You being in the south they'll most likely be on the lower end.

Well getting up a hardtop later is much more difficult/expensive than getting a softop later.

I live on a corner lot, with the main road leading into the subdivision running on one side of me. Point being, everyone sees my place as they drive through the subdivision.

My Honda Del Sol was stolen from my driveway.
I don't want the same to happen to my TJ.
(Stolen, broken in to, etc.)

I know that a hardtop won't stop someone, if they really want inside of my Jeep, but I want to deter them or slow them down, if possible.

I have too much crap in my garage to park the Jeep in there, so I want to get a hardtop for it before I were to bring it home.

If I were to find one that suits me, that already has the hardtop, then I can look at buying the soft top later.

If you are concerned about theft then buy with a hard top already installed so you do not have to be worried while you shop for a deal on a hard top. As said before you can get a soft top with all the hardware more easily than a used hard top. The price for a full new soft top is about the same as a used hard top so either way the total price should be about the same. You may even decide you do not need the soft top if you are going topless. Do you have room to store a hard top?

Yes.
Even though my garage is packed, there WILL be room for the hardtop.

You've pretty much answered your own question. My advice to you, clean that garage out.

if you find your TJ, and it does not have both tops, use that as a negotiating point.....get the seller to knock off $900 because one of the tops is missing......then turn around and buy the missing top.

if you have problems with thieves (as your post explains), hard tops, soft tops, no tops, is not going to resolve that. a locked garage is the best anti-car theft device invented.

Yikes !! I feel for you ,,, fortunately we live in a cool area, never lock anything, once we were gone for 3 days and forgot to close the garage door,, and my garage/shop/carriage house is full of tools, toys, big speakers, little Bose speakers, and tons of collectables... I guess I would think about moving from there, as I did from a metro area many years ago.. Good luck,, if some one wants to break in, or steal your jeep, they will, no matter the top..

Buy the JEEP you want....worry about the tops later.

Yep... nothing is so much more important that what is UNDER the top. Get a good one first and top it later. Same with doors. Get a good solid jeep first. All the rest is a matter of patience and luck.

I got a nice clean Bestop hardtop a couple months back for net of $170 off of craigslist. And I would say I like that hardtop as much as any. For one thing it comes lined with a headliner material so its quite. The front latches are adjustable. It lacks a rear wiper but it does have defrost. I have to wire those up anyway. It has some advantages over OEM in a couple ways.

I have half doors and I like them the best for summer time. But want a set of full doors too. So it doesn't really matter as your going to really kind of want them both anyway.

Get the best core of jeep to work with. All the rest can be fixed or changed.
