Lowering Axle to Install Springs
 
I found a write up on the Cherokee forum (similar suspension by the looks of it). Got my old springs out with compressors, but I don't see how I can get the new 2" OME springs in without lowering the axle. I've compressed them but they still won't slip into place.

Just checking to make sure I have the right steps before I get going:

1. Unbolt sway Bar
2. Unbolt shocks
3. Unbolt lower control arm (only the side I'm installing)
4. Put spring in place

Is that it?

Hoping to get the front springs on tonight and start on the rear tomorrow.

If you have the frame high enough on stands.... droop the axle with all the control arms on... then jack one side as far as you can and slide the spring in on the opposite side.

I used ramps on opposite corners and never needed a spring compressor....

It forces a droop when you do it this way....

I did this with a 2" BB early last year, but it works for springs too....

That's a clever way of doing it. Never thought of that.

The jeep is as high as my floor jack would take it and no droop. Its on 6 ton jack stands but I still can't slip the springs into place with the compressors almost fully compressed.

Are my steps above correct? Its the only way I can see to get the springs into place at this point.

You really only have to disco the sway bar links shocks. Jack frame up then axle. One tire at a time (the side your working on.
Worked for me.

Spring fell right out.

yeah... you are fine.... you just need to jack the opposite side up from the one you are working on.... I would hook your lower arms back up though....

do not unbolt the lower or upper control arms (unless replacing the arms). you'll have a hell of a time getting them back in, especially in the front.

however, before you lower the axle, you do want to loosen the bolts. remember to torque them after the weight is back on the tires. you can look up the torque specs for everything over on JeepForum.

make sure to remove the bumpstop cup and jounce bumper, will make life easier. don't forget the bumpstop extensions in the rear...OME includes 0.8" extensions, but they aren't enough, 1.25" are minimum for OME's rear shocks...

Yup, this will work but the lower sway bar bolts are seized. Need to break the nut off the bolt tomorrow. Not a big deal, got JKS Quicker Discos to install anyways.

Huh, didn't know that. Guess I need to order some new ones then. What is recommended? I see the JKS ones on Quadratech...maybe I'll order those.

make your own...not real hard...only talking 1/2" difference...
