2009 Softtop-Hardtop Question
I tried to do a search for this and never really came up with the same question. I bought a 2009 JK with a hardtop. I was wanting to get a softtop, but was not sure if there were any modifications I would have to make? I did see in one thread that there may be a windshield channel that needs to be installed, but also has to be removed for the hardtop. I would appreciate any help, because this forum is the best I have ever seen. Great information.

My 07 JK only came with a hard top, too. When I bought my soft top it came with the necessary framing/hardware for the doors and the tail gate. The soft top, I'm speaking in terms of a factory setup, should be able to be installed with not mods needing done to the windshield header. If you're referring to an aftermarket setup, which I would assume shouldn't be too different, should have some sort of disclaimer if there is a mod needed.

That makes me feel a lot better. Thanks for the help.

I recently bought a 08 unlimited that had a hard top..I also REALLY wanted a soft top (becuase without it, whats the point of a Jeep?? just my opinion) so as part of the deal they ordered one..

So just an FYI, they changed the design in either '10 or '11 of the soft tops to a cable system where the soft top meets the doors..there is a cable in the top that sits on the top of the door frame rail. The older soft top design uses a plastic lip that gets tucked into door frames..

Not making a judgement about either, just thought it would be good to know..
