Can't help you out because I don't own one but I have been looking also. Looks great! I need something like that but need it to work with a trektop nx...

burton09 09-03-2012 05:24 AM

I also have the trektop nx. I read that the aries lid works with both OE hard and soft tops. Is the trektop nx tailgate bar different than an OE soft top tailgate bar?

BadOleRoss 09-03-2012 08:09 AM

The Aries top seems to come up here about once every 4-5 weeks. It looks like a pretty nice top but availability seems to be an issue. There are very few placed to get the top and I think that along with the price makes people a little apprehensive about trying it.

burton09 09-03-2012 08:22 AM

Found a few places that sell it. Its actually a little less money than the tuffy full deck enclosure. I'm just trying to find out if it will work with the trektop nx and see if anybody that has it can chime in with opinions. Saw at least one guy on here has it installed.

I have been looking as well, but it doesn't seem that it would work with my Safari Straps. My Trektop NX is on it's way and I think it would work very well with that. I really don't like the fact that once you install it you can't really use the cargo area for anything else?

I had same thought about it. Take our dog at times. But I can always fold the back seats down and let her ride up there.

How True, but I have already pulled the back seat out and I think this cargo box is for the JKU and not my JK? Therefore it would take up the whole cargo area?

burton09 09-03-2012 08:46 AM

Yeah, its only listed for JKU. Have read on few sites that they were going to make one for JK but haven't seen it.

burton09 09-04-2012 05:57 PM

Called Aries today. They said it will work with hard or soft top. Since I am using a mopar tailgate bar I dont see why it wouldn't work with the trektop nx. Got one ordered. We shall see.

A little off topic, but what rear bumper is on the silver JKU in their video?

Aries chose to put one of their Aries bumpers on the Jeep for their promotional video from what I can see. :p Looks like it worked.

Aries cargo lid

New guy here: I recently installed one in my 2012 JKU. Paid $350 s/h included. Bolts in. No drilling. Acts like a tonnue cover. Fold rear seats forward and lid becomes a work bench when folded open.

I wish someone would have shown me this product (and the Dirty Dog shades) BEFORE I purchased the Tuffy Trunk enclosure and Spiderwebshade.....

foxsat71 04-05-2013 03:24 PM

The spidershade is actually an awesome product.

Yeah, but it more or less gets the point across. I'm definitely sold on this more than the Tuffy version.

IP0VV3R 04-06-2013 02:27 AM

I like the Tuffy security deck better. When the guy did a little hop thing the aires looked like it was about to break. With the Tuffy, the top and front sides can be removed for larger cargo (dogs, etc.)

Moabite 04-06-2013 10:25 AM

I bought the Tuffy #275...can't say enough good things about it. Great design...awesome tray on top...easily removeable if necessary.

AZikas86 04-06-2013 12:00 PM

I'm interested in getting one of these but how would it work with a hardtop? it seems from the video the panels sit on the lip where the hard top bolts

I assume the HT would sit over this panel? The bolts might need to be longer to go through the HT and the steel panel.

Just a guess.

i'm just worried about the possibility of water getting in then.

foxsat71 04-07-2013 01:00 AM

I'm at work right now, but I'll post some Sunday. I purchased from "jeep adding" say you seen it for sale for $350 shipped on a jeep forum and they should honor the price. I live in Los Angeles so it was local for me. The HT will sit on top of the panels and they provide 6 metal pads for the bolt to thread to. I believe they replace the 6 blocks that come from the factory. Does not really work with the tailgate bar. By that I mean the cargo lid hots the tailgate bar. When installing, it is imperative that you don not tighten any of the bolts.

foxsat71 04-07-2013 01:02 AM

That should read, "Jeep addon"

foxsat71 04-07-2013 01:08 AM

Damn word advisor. The cargo lid hits the tailgate bar. Do not tighten.

Aftahour 04-07-2013 02:37 AM

@foxsat71. please do post pics. this looks the one i might get plus my GF live a block from there cali location. lol

In full disclosure I have the Tuffy Security Deck, and I could not be more thrilled with it.

My concerns over this design is that it isn't easily removable (which is a big thing, and has come in really handy when I have to haul something larger in with the seats down) and has the separate locking top. This is another areas for egress for would be thieves, as well as another key I have to carry. In addition, with the softtop rolled back, you wouldn't be able to open the top hatch in any case. Granted the Tuffy top cant be raised either with the softtop folded back either.

Also the top deck is not recessed like the Tuffy, so securing things up there would be slightly more tenuous. Another concern would be the side pieces. As they are flat with the tub, when you have the soft top supports there, you will have metal to metal contact. With the Tuffy, the side area is still available so the support rest on the carpeted wheel wells (in addition, I use Velcro straps passed trough the Tuffy mount to secure the top supports to the tub, keeping them from bouncing around).

lastly, it looks like the top would be pretty easy to defeat with a pry bar on the long edge against the side. Hard to see how well that seals.

It is less expensive by a good bit tho. I'd like to see one in person to get a real feel for it.

Here are a few pics of the Aries Cargo Lid installed:Attachment 233199

I have the Steel Cargo Lid. I felt it would be stronger than the Aluminum Lid. With the tailgate bar installed, the cargo lid hits the bar on the R-H side(passenger side). I haven't seen the Tuffy unit, but it sounds nice and secure. Furthermore, the ability to remove it quickly and easily is a plus when hauling something in the back. I like the Aries unit; it's strong and secure. I haven't used it much because I still have my doors on, but once the doors come off, I'll be using it all the time. It's tall enough to fit your groceries in with the lid locked/down. Hope this helps someone.

Ooopps! The first pic was a mistake. My bad..
