Fuel Pressure Issue

I am a first time poster with a question about my jeep. I am having issues with long start times. if I cycle the fuel pump once or twice it will start right up. I tried replacing the fuel pressure regulator, the problem is i can't get the new one to seat properly on top of the fuel pump. All the pushing in the world is not helping. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Did you lube the o-rings?

x2 with o-ring lube

I did lube the O rings. I compared the new with the old a the stem that should mate to the fuel pump is about 1/16 of an inch longer on the new one. Should this make a difference.

Have a manufacturer/part number for the new regulator?

It is a GP Sorensen part number 800-430. I purchased it from Auto Zone.

FWIW, a genuine Mopar regulator can be had for about the same price as AZ charges for its part.

Thanks for the help, I will buy a factory part. I'm kicking myself for not doing that in the first place. And now I will hope AZ will take it back.

I may have just discovered (the hard way) what might have been your problem. Any chance the smaller o-ring of the regulator stayed behind when you removed the original regulator?

That is a good question. I am planning on dropping the tank sometime this week, that will be the first thing I check.
