Who Makes Wrangler?

I called Auto Zone this weekend to see if they had some windshield wiper blades in stock...

Auto Zone: Year, make and model?
Me: '03 Wrangler
AZ: That's a...Dodge?

:nonono:

Jerry Bransford 09-10-2012 11:48 AM

Have some real fun with them. Call back and ask for wiper blades for an 83 Corvette. http://fc06.deviantart.net/images/i/...l_emoticon.gif

Or any part for an 83 Corvette.

Beastmaster 09-10-2012 03:44 PM

These are also the same guys who ask what engine size you have when looking for a turn signal bulb.

Or 4wd or 2wd lol

lindel 09-10-2012 04:07 PM

The most fun comes when you ask for rear wheel cylinders for a post 76 full-sized Jeep. They almost always tell you they don't have them. Then you ask them for a wheel cylinder for just about ANY full sized Chevy, and they'll have 2 or 3 of them.

Then ask them to compare the part numbers and watch the eyes glaze over...same parts.

Atthehop 09-10-2012 04:46 PM

One reason to go to the dealer for your important parts.

The Missing 1983 Corvette! | Corvette Blog

not sure if it's true or not. i have a hard time believing anything i read on the internets.

Plowboy1970 09-10-2012 06:12 PM

Ask them for a water pump for a Chevy Corvair.

BamaRolln 09-10-2012 08:03 PM

I have a 83 vette. Its parked right outside next to my 96 wrangler.

By the way, they do have the wipers. I was changing mine in the parking lot and the passenger side slipped out of my hand after I go the old wiper off and it smacked the windshield and cracked it! I would have never thought it would crack that easy but it did. Had to replace it. Expensive wiper change that one was.

I used to work at Autozone, and even though there are plenty of cases of iditos working behind the bench, I promise you I have more examples of stupid customers than I can count. For example:

Every year about this time, there is a large influx of females coming in, asking for "blinker fluid" or the like. Usually on Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Didn't take us long to figure out that the husbands are just getting their wives out of the house to watch football.

Rubicondon53 09-10-2012 08:28 PM

I see hundreds of drivers every day that have run out of blinker fluid.. The stuff is only $5 a gallon,,, some people !!

blackrubi003 09-10-2012 08:33 PM

i have found over the years that most big name parts store employees can only help you if they can pull the part up on the computer, they usually have no idea otherwise.

Xjman1 09-10-2012 08:46 PM

I work at one and catch myself asking those questions to from time to time. I also ask why would i need to know if it is an extended cab for wipers, but since i do not know all i am left to assume it is asked for a reason.
I do stop myself quite a bit though as i say to myself who cares what size engine it has, i just want a brake light bulb. Lol.

But which dealer? AMC era Jeeps were a hodge-podge of GM, Ford and Chrysler parts, Chrysler and Daimler/Chrysler era Jeeps weren't any better, at least in regard to the full size Jeeps.

Gunner 09-10-2012 10:31 PM

No the best one is the call in's where the wife is calling for the husband sitting next to her and neither knows squat. She has to relay every question and you can hear him right there next to her.
Hi I need valve cover gaskets.
Yes ma'am. For what kind of motor?
Honey what motor is it?
He thinks it's a 351 or 352 he's not sure.
OK what year is it? we will try that.
Honey what year is it?
It's a 71.
Ok and what model of Ford is that?
Mustang.
Is that a 351W or a 351C?
Honey is that a C or a W?
He don't know but he says they"s all the same so can I come right down and pick up some?

or ask for rear door handles for a 1982 Olds Toronado (really any year none were 4 door) or ask for a thermostat for a volkswagen bug from the 70's or 80's...

Yes! Been married for over 18 years and never thought of this one. Gotta get my shopping list made now.

coolbreeze 09-11-2012 02:28 PM

Lol, that's funny right there.

I wasn't trying to slam on all Autozone people, I just wish there were more people in customer service positions with some common sense.

Just today, I went to another auto parts store, Carquest I think, and just said I needed "wiper blades for an '07 Wrangler". The only question the guy behind the counter asked was "regular or super duty?"

I guess if common sense were so common, everyone would have it. ;)

It is true ....I worked there as a manager from 1980 - 1986

LilYeller 09-11-2012 06:57 PM

See if they have a decent set of Muffler bearings while youre at it haha

backwards 09-11-2012 07:00 PM

Tell them you need wipers for a 1996 Wrangler

D2K47 09-12-2012 04:40 PM

A few months ago I went to the JEEP dealer to figure out what the "rule book" says on what type of oil to put in a AX-5 tranny, the guy that sells the parts and what not kept insiting that the ax-5 tranny is a 2wd...I was like how is that even possible and what does that even mean? He says thats what the computer information is telling him...I was like...Never ever stepping foot in a Jeep dealership again. I swear I have no idea how these people do not just drop dead with stupidity...

Videopelli 09-12-2012 04:55 PM

I went to a Jeep stealership in town to get my oil changed (had a 'freebie' in the coupon book). When I picked it up, the guy at the counter says "we did a routine safety check. Seems like one of your headlights is out. We can change that for you it you'd like" "Umm, how much" "Oh it's only 75.00" Me - trying to suppress my 'bullshit' gene. Seeing this, the guy at the counter quickly recovered "It's so expensive because its a sealed beam". Ohh, that's why?

You wonder if they are taught to lie or its ignorance? And I wonder how many people have bought their 75.00 headlamp?

Blind Dog 09-12-2012 05:34 PM

The economy must be doing great because everywhere I go to get something, it's their first week on the job.

Actually '79 was the last Beetle, and they had thermostats even before that. It was a bellows in the cooling air stream that operated air damper flaps.
Not being picky, just that I'm an old VW guy. ;)
