Dana 44 3.55 noises

I've got a 97 wrangler with a rear dana 44 3.55 gear ratio. whenever I accelerate and turn to the right I hear a loud obnoxious clicking sound, when I turn left it makes a low groaning noise. Otherwise it's quiet. I tried swapping the u joints to no avail and I've done a bunch of research and can't find any definitive answers. What are my options?

TracLoc?

You most likely have similar noises on left and right turns. Mostly noticeable during non-straight take offs and slow turns but quiet going straight. I'm guessing you need a rear differential fluid change with friction modifier. The growling noise is from the clutch packs, I'm betting that you have limited slip, TracLoc and your fluid is shot. I used Mopar 75W90 (PN 5102232AA) with a tube of Mopar friction modifier (PN 4318060AB; LSD additive) but there are other brands you can use, just don't forget to use the additive. You may need a heavier weight gear oil of you're towing, 75W140. Don't forget to get some brake cleaner and rtv unless you use LubeLocker seals. Good Luck!

Pull the differential cover and take a good look inside the differential and at the ring & pinion gears. Such noises could be anything from a broken/chipped ring or pinion gear, bad bearings, broken spider gears, or a bad clutch pack if you have a Tracloc LSD inside the axle. :)
