External Sirius Radio Antenna

I had Sirius radio in my truck, before I traded it in and bought my Wrangler this past November.

When I bought the Wrangler, since I already had Sirius, I didn't ask for the "in dash" radio that had Sirius in it. (Just the stock radio was fine).

Since I had trouble in the past with the deterioration of the cable that led to the external magnet-mount antenna on the truck, I bought another antenna (same type) and simply laid it on the dash (works fine that way) inside the cab.

Can I attach the antenna lead to the radio antenna on the Wrangler, and get the same or equal reception? I'd like to get rid of the rolled up antenna on the dash if I could.

Perhaps the antenna mounted on the Wrangler (the one from the factory, that is), is only designed for AM/FM reception?

Attach your antenna to a thin small metal plate, then zip-tie that plate to the top of your roll-bar somewhere out of the way. Then you can run the wire under the bar pads.

Satellite radio signals go through fabric and fiberglass, so it can be up on top and out of the way, but not in the weather with wires running out of the Jeep.

i didn't even bother with the metal plate or zip ties. just run the cable under the padding on your roll bar and it will get plenty of reception and won't move around.

The "wire" has an antenna pad at the end of it which needs to point up in the sky....

Where do you leave the pad, when the soft top is back up, and
would block it?

I have to confess that I hadn't thought about routing the wire through the padding....good idea!!

Done the rigging, but still don't know how I'm gonna get reception when the soft top is "up."?????

second issue: putting the soft top up and over the antenna pad would cause stretching and/or damage to the top, no?

You will get reception just fine with the top up even with a hardtop on ...

Mount your antenna UNDER the padding....the radio waves go right thru anything that isnt metallic...

What he said... The signals will pass through both Soft Fabric tops and Hard Fiberglass Tops, so you have nothing to worry about.

Lesson learned I guess...thought "line of sight" was the requirement, (which of course isn't an issue when I'm "topless" but....)

"Thanks" folks!

The verdict is in....no noticeable interferance by the soft top when put up, over the magnetic antenna mount!!!!

Plenty of space there too, between the crossover of the roll bar, to the top itself.

Great suggestion!!! Mucho appreciated!! Had a GREAT late night ride to the Bethany Jam I go to monthly with my instruments!!

Thanks again, ya'll!!

If You Have The Magnet Mount For The Sirius Take Off Your Front Tops And Mount It On The Sport BAR There Is A Nice Flate Peice Of Metal On Top And It Doesnt Intefere Wit Hteh Tops Thats Where Mine Has Been For 6 Months Or So Works Great
