The 8th Semi-Annual Wrangler Forum Meet and Greet, A Turdhurdler Production

Ok ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls; it is that time again to start planning a new Semi Annual Meet and Greet!!! The last one in Big Bear was a blast and the need to get the tires dirty again is strong.

The dates of mid to late March have worked well so far for most members. So, with that said, lets have some suggestions of location. Calico is great for the hard core guys and fun for beginners/or stock rigs to explore the more mild terrain. Anza Borrego is doable for stockers with a tug or two and challenging for built rigs depending on the line chosen. I am open to other suggestions also. For potential locations, lets keep in mind that our group tends to be a bit large and rather noisy...:whistling:. For the time of year I am planning, a desert area will probably be more weather friendly than a mountain area, but I ain't skeered of a little snow if everyone else is up for it.

Well, lets have that input and get this event started.

It there are no objections, the event will be held the weekend of Friday, March 22 through Sunday March 24.
The rules for this event are as follows.

1) NO DRINKING ON THE TRAILS. This includes passengers as it is just too easy for someone to hand a drink over to the driver
2) First Aid kit on the rig within reach of the driver and others. In case of an emergency, we want to be able to help you.
3) Recovery points front and rear.
4) Fire extinguisher on the Jeep, again within reach of driver and others.
5) A spare tire within 2" of the size of tire on your rig.
6) A minumum of an A/T tire. Street tires stand a higher rate of failure on the trails.

OK, enough of the serious stuff. Here is a list of going. If I have missed you, let me know and I will correct it.

Also would like to keep the group to 15 jeeps to allow sufficient time.

Drive to Bismark Mine, possible lunch if that time, then to the Stone Cabin and to Wall Street bypass. If time and interest permits, we can then go to Top of the World for a easy cool down run.

For members coming on this run, please bring a flash light and a lunch for the trail. There are a couple of spots on the trail with mines that go back a hundred feet or so and a blast to walk into and check out.

Calico was definitely a good time :thumb: I wouldn't mind heading back that way again. Also wouldn't mind tryin something new either if anyone has suggestions.

suicideking 09-14-2012 12:19 AM

I'd vote Anza Borrego only because I haven't been there yet.

Wherever it is, I'm in!

I remember this being brought up in one of the other meet and greet threads...but is anyone familiar with bullfrog in Johnson valley? That looks like a blast as well for some desert wheeling

Kota7x 09-14-2012 01:30 AM

Anza Borrego for my vote. I know that place like the back of my hand.
http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...0CC611C193.jpg
If there is enough interest we could do an easy/moderate run over in Truckhaven.

ChuckMRN 09-14-2012 07:54 AM

Well Johnson Valley has many options. Cougar Buttes with Cake Walk and Bull Frog. Means Dry Lake with all the Hammer stuff and just across the highway is Rattlesnake canyon, Mottino Wash and a little further up to Tip Top Mountain and Pontiac Sluice. All a short ride from each other. Nothing like the Dez for alot of room.

yomondo 09-14-2012 11:21 AM

I'd like to do Johnson Valley if we can find enough trail leaders to lead a few separate runs out there on different trails of varying difficulty levels. Because I don't think everyone will want to do Bullfrog. I believe it's primitive camping out there in Cougar Buttes though.

Calico's a good option to do again.

And there's also a big primitive camping area in Goler Heights, from where we can run Last Chance Canyon/Schmidt Tunnel/Goler Gulch.

BeantownR6 09-14-2012 11:29 AM

is johnson valley being taked over by the military?

1) last chance canyon
2) anza borrego

They are trying, but they haven't yet. Being the location of the king of the hammers...it will be quite the fight

BeantownR6 09-14-2012 07:41 PM

actually id like to throw a vote for calico.
1) calico
2) last chance canyon
3) anza borrego

Gunner 09-14-2012 08:04 PM

Anza Borrego. Went there a long long time ago and had a blast.

Carlsbad0331 09-14-2012 09:12 PM

Well as long as its within a few hours drive of San Diego and a stock YJ is able to go along, count me in. Given this isnt until March, I may be able to fit some mods in before then, but no guarantees.
I would love to come along (my first off road adventure), but if you dont think I could keep up I will understand.

We always have a lot of people at these meets and split up into different groups. The beginner group seems to always be the largest. If you can make it, there will be a good run for you to do! :thumb:

Come on out. My first real run was the 1st Annual So Cal Meet n Greet set up by another member. I had a bone stock YJ with only 31" mall terrain tires. I did Anza Borrego with a couple of tugs and a lot of fun. You will be fine.

Jeff

phnguyen7 09-15-2012 01:47 AM

Im down for anything. anza and johnson are all good choices.

Sccafire 09-15-2012 11:44 AM

If you all go to Borrego, I might try and make it from Norcal. Its been a long time since I have been through the "squeeze."

Bring the firetruck in your avatar through the squeeze and you got a deal, haha.

I will go with a majority vote on destination, so far Anza and Johnson Valley seem pretty popular choices.

Maybe you can get a mod to add a poll to the thread :whistling:

suicideking 09-15-2012 02:10 PM

JV would be cool considering it might get closed. Most of it's pretty hard though. Not sure if there would be much for the beginners group though?

Sccafire 09-15-2012 03:17 PM

Also with going to Borrego, Octillo Wells is right around the corner and has the newer (ish) 4X4 area.

turdhurdler 09-15-2012 09:13 PM

Poll is up. Let me know where you would like to go for our next epic event.
