Getting rid of the airbox
Before you fire up the flamethrowers, this is not a thread about trying to gain an extra 2hp with a K&N intake. I acknowledge that the stock airbox/intake system is fine for the purposes of the 4.0L TJ.

My problem is space. I would really like to do a York OBA system in my 1998 TJ (w/ AC). The only way to use the Kilby brackets is to get rid of the airbox.

What are some opinions on various options? Moving the stock airbox? Replacing with airbox from a different car and relocating? Cowl intakes?

I am just trying to figure out the best and most cost effective way to do it and would love some expert opinions. I have read many of the various threads on different methods and my head is just swimming with all the options.

Thanks in advance.

Do a search on the Windstar cowl intake. I had one when I still had my 4.0 and it worked great, was cheap (about $50 invested), and still used a good factory designed paper filter.

The cowl filter like mentioned above by sduncan is really your best bet. I also installed a York OBA with Kilby's bracket and you really don't have many options other than that one that gives you the ability to use the recommended paper element type of air air filter.

thanks for the advice. I did read one thread on that type and was trying to decide between the DIY route and buying something like the Spectre kit. But $50 sounds better than $150 to me!
