Newbe here........ looking into a 2013 tomorrow got questions ....

.... regarding the head problems I've read about. Does anyone know if this has been fully resolved or are any of the 2013 owners experiencing this problem? I'm not new to jeeps having owned 2 CJ 5's and a TJ Sahara. Got the bug again and I have a choice between a virtually new 2011 with 6500 miles on it for $16K cdn or to buy a new 2013 with the Pentastar etc.
I'd like to buy the new one but I'm afraid to drop all that cash and have problems.
By the way..... great forum!!

The benefits of the refinement in the new models outweighs the potential problem with the new heads. They seem to be better sorted and should you have a problem with yours, the turn around has been relatively quick. (based on what others have posted).

I bought the 2013 JKU, it is my first Jeep, but I would always go for a new one. I love the vehicle and haven't had any problems so far.

sandbaja 09-18-2012 07:20 PM

I have not seen any confirmed failures on the 2013's. The updated heads were put into production sometime in June so you should be OK.

BadOleRoss 09-18-2012 07:31 PM

Agreed, go new. I have a 2013 and love it and I have not read anywhere that the issues carried over into the 2013 line. Pretty sure they got that taken care of last year.

rhen74 09-18-2012 08:01 PM

I've got a 2013. Zero problems so far.

Buy new, it's under warranty, so dont worry about it.

I sat there and kept watching that gif..... cracked me up!:D

Back on topic: I'd go new if you can afford it. If I was going to buy a used Jeep, it would have to be a pre-75.;)

johnnyjellybean 09-19-2012 07:06 PM

So I went to the dealer and signed an offer to buy today on a 2013......... Looks like they don't have exactly what I want anywhere within a 300 mile radius . I wanted a dana 44 with 3.73s with air and 17" wheels in silver, deep red, black or either green . Looks like the closest they could come with was dana 44 with 17's and no air in deep blue pearl which is growing on me every second!! I told the salesman that I give him 24 hrs and if he can't find the same with air then that's my new Jeep !! I should be behind the wheel of a 2013 by next wed the latest!!! Can't wait! Updates to come!

Why not just order one to your exact specs? IMO, it's the best way to avoid buyer's remorse after settling on whatever is available. Good things come to those who wait! :)

I agree. I don't know where you live but no air could be an "Issue"...

I think he was referring to the climate control option. (all models come with at least the standard AC/heat)

You're definitely not alone my friend... not by a long shot! I guess I didn't know this about the base model Sport because I've only been building Rubicons on the site... for about two months... before finally ordering on Monday... lol. ;)

I'm not willing to to wait 12 weeks which is the delivery time they gave me.

I live in Montreal Canada so AC is used only 2-3 months of the year. Not really an issue except while driving on rainy days in July and August.
The vehicle also comes in $1225 cheaper without the air. I'm more concerned about not have the Dana 44 since I plan to do some off roading. There are several jeeps available with air..... Just not my favorite colors and they have the base model 3.21 diffs
