Windshield Lights
Hey Everyone,

I want to put windshield side lights on my TJ Wrangler. So right now, I'm prepping to remove the 4 (2 on each side) bolts. Unfortunately, I have stripped 2 of the bolts :( Yeah it sux. So I'm thinking about drilling out the stripped bolts. Any other suggestions?

I'm sure I can get replacement bolts to put in there which I plan to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had to drill down into 3 of mine and used a a snap-on easy out on mine.Just use a bit about the size as the toques bit hole that is stripped and drill soon as you get it deep enough tap the easy out in with a hammer and try it.Do it quick because the heat from drilling it will aid in getting out.

To remove those torx bolts you need a couple of things, 1/2 ratchet, 3/8-1/2 adapter, correct 3/8" torx socket and make it a good one, not one of those cheapie one piece ones, a dead blow hammer and a 3" 1/2" extension.
Put the torx socket on the adapter, adapter on the 3" extension and set it in the torx bolt you want to remove, take the deadblow and with a good solid thump drive into the torx bolt, yes, hammer it in, you are trying to get the torx bit to bottom out on the bottom of the painted torx bolt, the paint in the bottom will 'flow' around the torx bit. Then without moving it and keeping pressure on it put the 1/2 ratchet on there [lefty loosy, righty tighty ahead of time] then keeping constant pressure on it give it a good turn. The bolt should back right out.
Learned that trick from the yard manager at a jeep junkyard here in Pa.

You really need to use the 1/2" ratchet too for the added torque you can't get with even a 3/8" breaker bar, this is from experience.

I used to do that but now I got a Snap-on impact driver that has the 3/8 end on it were you put the torx bit on it and it rotates when you smack it with a hammer works prtty good.I have removed the rest of my hinges with it without stipping any after the 3 on the windshield hinge.Go to Harbor freight and get one they work just as well for a lot less money though:mad:
