Hey guys, im still struggling with problems. I have a hole in the casing of the transfer case. it turns out that it will cost more to have a place replace casing then to have a used one installed. I have a few questions.
1 - I do have some experience with a wrench, but not extensively. How hard is it to take off just the rear casing of the transfer case and replace it?
2 - If i did have to go with a used one, what years and models will fit in my truck?
I have a 1995 Rio Grande (4cyl. 5-speed)

Anyone know what transfer cases fit into my year?

Any 231 case out of a YJ will work as a direct replacement, if you get just the rear case half out of a TJ or XJ the tail housing off of your current case will have to be swapped over to the new one

I'm not sure about pulling the cover off, i've never done that. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure all YJ's and TJ's have the same the transfer case. The NP231 or soemthing like that. there should be a round tag on the drivers side part of the case that says that. I think even dodge dakota's used em, but i'm not real sure...

so if i grab any used transfer case from any yj (manual or automatic) and the gear ratio is 272, i should be fine? i just dont wanna end u buyin the wrong one and have to resell it

yep, any case out of a yj will bolt right in, don't even worry about gear ratio, all of the 231j's are 2.72
