How can I achieve more towing power on my 2000 jeep wrangler sport without dumping a bunch of money into it??
What do you want to tow?
How heavy is it?
The real problem is your short wheel base towing heavy/long trailers.
The tail really can wag the dog with a Jeep.
Brakes, as in the trailer better have them, because your Jeep won't be able to slow anything heavy without them. Can you spell "Jacknife"
Do not go over 2000. Its not about power, the engine and drivetrain have plenty of power to pull a heavier load. Its the short wheelbase that makes it dangerous. I would never tow anything over 2000 lbs but trailer brakes would make it safer. I have heard a few people tow 3,000 with trailer brakes. Also know that a 4.0 with 5speed can tow more than a 4.0 automatic, and obviously a 2.5 too. What do you have? I towed a ~1,300 pound trailer to Tahoe from the bay area (4.5 hours) with my 4.0 and didn't have too many problems towing it, it was the stopping that was hard.
