Well the latch in the middle is broken, and the other latches look like some cheap after market ones. After I cleaned myself up I noticed one of the bolts that mounts through the hood backed its self off so I guess that let it fly open.

Morris brother. Thank God you are still with us. Had the hood of a beater I was driving for a U/C car do it to me at about 80 or so, was no fun... Funny now that I look back... But at the time, very inconvenient. Hard to do surveillance like that....... lol

I know how that feels!! Had that happen to me going down 495 in DC going 75 mph in my dodge duelly in packed traffic! I puckered up so bad you could drive a tooth pick with a pile drive between my butt cheeks. Luckily when that happened it magically caused all the cars around me to scatter LOL it was fun trying to see out of the windshield thru the little slit between the hood and the dash and make my way over too the shoulder. Thank god I had tie wire in the truck!

Ive had my Jeep for almost a month now and I guess its part of my doing pre-mission equipment inspections or something, but I have a habit of checking the hood latches to make sure some ass clown hasnt unlatched them.
Knowing my friends, I could see one of them doing it because they thought it was funny.
Glad that its only a dented hood, it could have been much worse!

Guilty..:) 74 cj10 luckily I wasn't going too fast.

Had that happen in the dead of winter 40+ mph winds and bitter cold, passed a semi going into a head wind and bam up it came on my 83-1/2 shelby charger. Luckily the wipers saved the windshield.

Happened to a friend of mine in his 78 Cj5.
His springs in the latches shattered.

My bro inlaws firebird did that once too.

Never happened to me.

Mine popped once but the safety latch caught it. That was in a 74 charger.

Installed one of the secondary locks, just do it won't happen on theYJ, once in an old Pathfinder was bad enough... Doing 70, windshield was toast , hood looked like a taco after

I'd definitely get that prime latch fixed ASAP. For a while, I was only running on that (as I had the fenders off to do the tube fenders). It wobbled a lot with the other two off but the center kept it in place.
