Observation...4cyl, 4:10's and 33's
I am sure this has probably been discussed many times, but now that I have had 33's for a few days, I want to discuss it. LOL
So I ran 31's for a year on the 4cyl with the stock 4:10's. They were fine, but often what I experienced in High Range was that it felt like there was a gap between the gears (mostly on hills or slight inclines) where 3rd was reved to high (above the power band) and 4th was boggy (below the power band). Sometimes had the same problem between 2nd and 3rd on steeper stuff.
My fear in going to 33's that the problem was going to get worse, but it appears that 33's have bridged that gearing gap. I find that instead of having that point when I feel like I need to grab forth when I had 31's, I can stay in 3rd with 33's and stay in the motor's powerband.
So aside from the 5th being useless and having to feather's the clutch a little more in 1st too get the Jeep rolling, I am going to say that 33's, 4:10's and the 4cyl work pretty well together. 4.88 gears are coming in the future to get my 5th gear usable again, but I am happy that I went with 33's. :thumb:
