Fuel Smell Part 2
I still had a mild gas smell. My mechanic went through the jeep from engine block to fuel tank found no leaks. We disconnected the line going to the charcoal filter and smell went away. I smell nothing. My questions are:
  1. Am I causing another problem that I am not aware of yet?
  2. I notice that jeep does not start as fast as it used to is that due to the vacuum disruption?
  3. If charcoal filter goes bad, are there parts that need replaced or do you replace the whole unit?
  4. Dealer part or can I find after market?

I am sorry I am not a mechanic, i am a wood worker so any help would be appreciated. 1991 Jeep Islander is the vehicle i am referring to.

Not much of a help but I had a slow start and it turned out to be fuel leak. so id be willing to bet they are related.

The charcoal tank takes fuel vapors from the tank filters and sends back to the intake.

The only problem you are causing you already stated harder to start oopen vacuum
You will need to replace the tank as an assembly
Go the nearest junk yard I am sure they have one cheaper than the dealer. Don't readily see one on some of the popular parts sites. Rock Auto $35
