Buyer Be Ware--info only

A month ago I bought a brand new 2012 Saraha JK with the new Penstar engine. I loved the vehicle until Last Friday when the engine wouldn't start. It appeared to be a fuel pump/fuel delivery problem but Don A Vee Jeep has replicated the intermittent problem and believes it computer related. So they have called in Chrysler to confir. Apparently this is their second 2012 Wrangler with this problem.

So with only 2800 miles on this engine I am being treated pretty well. Hopefully this is a fluky problem that will be easily resolved. Just thought those 2012/13 owners should know!

Farnham21 10-01-2012 09:02 PM

Known since last year how did you not know?

Teemu 10-01-2012 09:04 PM

Huh? I read about the ticking/head problem but I never read about computer issues??? Do tell please!!!

I have a new 2012 Sahara. I am having problems they can't make happen at the dealership. Wipers will just randomly turn on and off without touching anything. The AC will turn off and back on once in awhile. All I can do is let them know so there is a paper trail. Good luck.

MAKE SURE they enter in in their computer, and as for a print out!

I've heard issues from fires starting on the ride home to head issues I computer issues to abs light issues to 4lo not engaging to sway bars not disconnecting to mpg around 13-14 to not starting everytime. Should have bought a Toyota if you didn't want problems it's an unavoidable jeep love hate relationship that requires you to empty your pocket on mods and accessories that don't fix any problems but looks awesome so you don't care about the problem anymore and just say yolo I got a warranty thank god. Did I mention they all leak?

The wiper issue was one I had too and they flashed a module to fix it. hasn't happened since so I guess it's fixed.

My air had gone off and right back on occasion but I attributed it to the auto temp control...perhaps not! Well fortunately the problem was replicated. I'll post when I know more...I found it interesting that they called in Chrysler.

Yes first oil change the paper work stated the issues. Tucked away with all the paper work. Have had it back for parts missing from build for hard top. Told them again so on the paper work again. They flashed the computer. As I was driving off the lot the wipers came on. Just looked at wife and laughed.

Teemu 10-01-2012 09:16 PM

4th owned jeep I failed to mention...ya they leak but most of ours are modify and run well....but they are AMC era.

Teemu 10-01-2012 09:27 PM

I'm not trading it in! I'm getting old and can't hike well any longer!! LOL!! At least I can still enjoy the great outdoors with my jeeper son:) ok...if it gets THAT bad I'll consider the FJ Cruz since the Bronco is gone:))

Farnham21 10-01-2012 09:29 PM

Please don't ever say that again lol

Teemu 10-01-2012 09:29 PM

I grew up on a '68 Bronco....

Farnham21 10-01-2012 09:30 PM

No about the fj lol not the bronco

Teemu 10-01-2012 09:38 PM

Oh, ok! Speaking of which, we have this local 4x4 off road place where all the jeeps go to watch the Chevy Blazers get stuck in the mud....it's hilarious! A couple weekends ago all these Blazers were stuck up to their doors in mud...no one could get them out. There was this brand new Rubi with no plates...first time out there....stuck in mud up to his doors...we tried to get him out. 3 of us jeeps pulling and pulling...we were anchoring each other so we didn't land in the drink like the big F250's trying to pull the Blazers out. I was quite impressed with the FJ. He held his own pulling his friend out! Unfortunately after the wench broke we had to tell the guy to call a pro tow truck in. I felt so bad for him and promised not to post any pics!

Teemu 10-01-2012 09:41 PM

Oh, and I bought the lifetime warranty!

Farnham21 10-01-2012 09:43 PM

In my neck of the woods if u see an fj u put a flag on the windshield and a note that says way to buy American move to Japan if you want a jap trap

The thing is, their price don't reflect their shortcomings, if they'd cost 20k no problem, but they are close to forty....and at that price "the jeep thing" it's not an easy pill to swallow.

2011 data:

Jeep Wrangler 79% US made parts. :thumb:

FJ Cruiser 0% US made parts. :nonono:

I'll bet the guys with 37's would love a check from chrysler! :D

blackforestgreen 10-01-2012 10:24 PM

teemu, the computer glitch you are describing has occurred in 07 to 11 models also. some have had success by disconnecting battery for 15 to 20 minutes to "reset" the computer.

Teemu 10-01-2012 10:24 PM

I'm proud to say I've never bought a foreign automobile:).

Teemu 10-01-2012 10:26 PM

Now that I know it's probably computer, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

Ours was a lot closer to $20k than $40k.

You may not have purchased a foreign manufacturer, but the chances of you not having a foreign car are slim if you've purchased new the last 20 years.
