O2 sensor problem solved!
 
So I just wanted to inform my fellow jeep members that I recently fixed my O2 sensor problem (and was quite a confusing thing). I own a 2000 Wrangler 4.0L sport, and recently got the (OBDII) P0132 & P0138 codes which are High Voltage Output in sensors 1 & 2. I had to search this forum, as well as other sites to make sure I was investing my money the right way :p. Anywayz here's the breakdown:

1. Got the codes P0132 & P0138.
2. Jeep started to hesitate and before long started to putt around.
3. Checked fuses, checked O2 sensor fuses including O2 sensor (Cali) ones. My jeep wasn't made in Cali. so only the small fuses had to be checked. Checked also the PDC relay fuse behind the glove compartment.
4. *Confusing part: Apparently if your jeep (mine is a 2000) is NOT made in Cali, it will have 2 sensors (one upstream and one downstream). Where as Cali jeeps have four O2 sensors (two upstream and two downstream). Mine being non-Cali, I bought two sensors, both being Bosch, part numbers 13122 and 15465.
5. **Another confusing part: If you own a non-Cali jeep, buy part number 13122 for upstream!! Part number 13280 O2 sensor is for Cali-emissions and won't fit your upstream. As for downstream, its the same part number for both.
6. Took both sensors out, using the 7/8" special socket and wrench. Downstream was tough, had to heat up exhaust pipe to get the sensor out. Pretty easy to get to them but limited space.
7. Applied anti-seize to the new sensors on the threads and placed them in their appropriate places.
8. Cleared codes, jeep purrs like a kitten!! :D

Side Notes: *parts were roughly $70 a piece.
*My jeep was around 75,000 miles when the sensors went out

Reviving an old thread cause it seems the most relevant. I have been searching the forum and online parts stores for the majority of the night trying to figure out which o2 sensors i need. I picked up my used 2006 Wrangler Sport a few weeks back and noticed I had the o2 sensor codes lit up for all 4 o2 sensors on my OBD scan. I reset the codes and they immediately returned. I also noted that I get 9-10mpg with 32" tires. I have the Cali model which has 4 o2 sensors on it. I was thinking I should start by replacing the upstream o2 sensors. Can anyone provide me with the correct part numbers? The searches are not giving me clear answers. Any other advice?

can anyone tell me where the fuses are for the downstream O2 sensor i have a code PO138 ( high voltage code ) I have a new sensor but would like to check the fuses if the code does not clear when I install it. I think the sensor has a heater in it 4 wires.

I took a little trip to Autozone to check on the O2 sensors. I got all 4 Bosch Sensors for about $110 out the door. They had the two rear in stock and will have to 2 fronts tomorrow. Hope to have them installed tomorrow afternoon.

Bosch Part numbers for the Cali model as follows:

Upstreams - 15123 ($26.99) and 13869 ($25.99)

Downstreams - 15511 ($24.99) and 15510 ($23.99), which appear to be the same, but the 15511 has a longer harness.

I just went through the same issues. I got everything swapped out but for the life of me I cannot find the upstream sensor. Even looking through the Haynes manual it does not call out where this upstream sensor is located. HELP!!!

They are all located on the on the exhaust. If you have a Cali jeep like I do, there is 2 before the mini cats which I believe are the upstream and 2 on the exhaust after the cats which are the down stream. If you get underneith it and take a look, you will see all 4 of them.

Yep, they are pretty easy to see and get to. I went from above to get the upstreams, and below for the downstreams. Unfortunately, this did not solve my issues, and the same codes are lit up. I have traced my wire harness as best I could for rough areas, and am starting to lean towards a computer issue.

Thanks. I will look for it tonight. I think I only have 2 sensors (non cali). I ended up replacing the TPS and IAC, along with the one oxygen sensor and it seemed to fix my problems. I am far from a mechanic so I am probably not going to be too much help Spooled. I went into this assuming I had more than one issue so I was just looking for small improvements with each new part. I just had a code P0455 pop up yesterday but my Jeep is running great. I am losing a little power at highway speeds going uphill but I have always had that issue. Who knows what it is going to take to get this new code to disappear. I am going to drop my tank this weekend and clean it out and make sure I have solid connections on everything and scope out the fill tube and all of that. What a pain in the ass though. I am ready to put my suspension on and I am spending all of my time tracking down these freaking codes. AHHHHHHHHH

Was thinking of tuning up the jeep tomorrow. If I have had no problems so far (knock on wood) should I bother changing the sensors. I was thinking I would anyway cause it has 160,000 miles on it and have no idea when they were changed last or if ever.

have '03 Jeep Wrangler 6 cyl. I have replaced the 02 sensor and even a second time, thinking it was a bad part. The light doesn't stay cleared for more than a day. I was told to do some carbonater treatments (RXP) and get some premium gas, maybe a new gas cap. Is there anything else I should try to make this light stay off? I saw a thread that said it could be fuses.

I know it's been a few years but thanks for posting to the Wrangler forum regarding the O2 sensor. I have a 1999 sport 4.01 and need to have the sensors replaced. I think I can do this myself. Your post was very helpful.

I just read in my Haynes book their is a emission maintenance timer installed under the dash of the cali jeeps to remind you to change the 02 sensors..The check engine will trip until its changed...thank you California....it says the timer cannot be reset just replaced or unplugged.

I've read that there are "cheater" plugs that plug into the harness for the O2 sensors that make the computer think everything is perfect. I'm looking to replace my entire exhaust soon and have the Cali BS setup. Anyone know where to buy these O2 sensor bypasses? They are probably for "Off road use only", which is fine for me, but I'm thinking it will make life easier.

HGG, the cheater plugs are for the downstream sensors only. You want the upstreams, they are what determine the fuel mixture. any change in elevation, temp, or even humidity requires the mixture needs to change. Thats why EFI works better than carbs(for care free driving). for the upstream they make cheater boxes that modify the signal so you can make the engine run richer. These are for guys that do engine mods like big cams and forced induction. the cheater plugs are so you can pull your cat and not trip a code. The UPSTREAM= fuel mixture, DOWNSTREAM= cat efficiency. Neither are legal for street use in most states. actually circumventing OBD2 is not legal in any state for on road use. I LOATH POLITICIANS for this reason! CARB sucks too!

Thanks. I know what they do, I just figure that if I'm replacing the entire exhaust, I'd rather not replace it with another dumbass setup with 4 sensors. I'd like to get rid of the pre-cats and just have the header go to one cat in the back. Trying to find a way without having to mess with the wiring or computer. Sorry I wasn't very specific. Any idea where to get the cheaters for the 2 downstream sensors? I'm just glad there isn't a 5th sensor behind the exhaust...

I didn't really think about how replacing the upstream would hurt performance. Never heard of them being used for modified engines either, thought they just needed bigger injectors. Hate to pay for those pre-cats though.

after the mini-cat towards the rad / forward -bank one is the front, it's right behind and above the front diff...I just changer both my lower O2 sensor's and it took about 20 minutes total, you'll want an O2 sensor socket an extension / wobble - I took a wire brush to them before I changed them out.

Open the hood stand on the divers side, follow the exhaust pipe down and you can see it pointing out toward the tire.

The image shows the locating of sensors 1-4 and the appropriate plug locations(It may vary slightly by year). 1 and 2 are upstream while 3 and 4 are downstream(This is the way the dealership and most part houses will list them).

1 is Bank1, Sensor1
2 is Bank2, Sensor1
3 is Bank1, Sensor2
4 is Bank2, Sensor2

Depends on what your looking for. If its o2 sensors, rockauto.com. Anything else, find the part number required and punch it into google search/shopping. This is a great way to see who offers the part at the best price.

Having the "Cali" emissions setup (4 O2 sensors) doesn't mean it was made in California, just that it was made to pass their ridiculous emissions testing. Look at your exhaust, if you have 4 O2 sensors (2 before and 2 after the pre-cats) it's the Cali setup, if you just have 2 (one before and after the main cat) you don't.
