So today I got in my 1999 5 speed jeep wrangler to go to work. when I started up the jeep and right away it was running like shit, shaking and hesitating. but It was going. I made it about a mile before the check engine light started blinking, it felt like it was dying so I high tailed it home. I looked under the hood to see if anything visible was wrong. nope. got back in it and things seemed fine.. I hooked up a computer, no codes were thrown.
I was lucky not to be out of the neighborhood. I just dont want to be an hour away and this happen. Any ideas what it is or advice?
p.s I have already replaced the ignition switch, and think i might need to replace the lock cylinder. i can pull the key out while driving. but it has never effected the way it drove. it didnt bother anything actually. so I dont think thats the problem

If the light was flashing that is supposed to signify a misfire condition that has the potential to damage the Catylitic Converter if you continue to operate it for a ong period of time,When was the Last Tune Up? May be time to think about doing Spark Plugs,Spark Plug Wires & Distributor Cap & Rotor,Also pull the coil wire off at the coil & look for corrosion it's not too uncommon for corrosion to form there.

Kinda strange the code was not in History,If misfire went away light would stop blinking but normaly a code would be stored in history,Someone with a real scan tool (Not a code reader) could access the OBD 2 Mode 6 Data & see what cylinder was misfiring,I know My Snap On Solus Pro can do it not sure about some of the other scan tools on the market?
