tj turns strangely to right

I have a 99 tj with 4 cyl.

It has recently started steering strangely.

It turns left normally, but when turning right (at speed or stopped) there is much less resistance and it then reacts suddenly, jerking to the right.

Tried changing the damper - no effect.

It as though there is too much power steering boost when turning right?

New to jeeps, anyone seen this before.

Thanks

Welcome to the WF!

Have you checked your tire pressure all around?

Have you recently been off-road where any parts (tie rods, etc.) have come in contact with the ground or rocks and such?

Sticking brake caliper?

Was off road (or at least a very rough farm/logging road).

Mine does the same thing. Feels like when I turn sharp in 4WD but I'm not in 4WD. Was limited slip an option in a D35?

Mine is the rear left tire that does it

Yes it was an option, but from what I've heard it's rare.

After doing some research into how the power steering works - I suspect that the problem is the power steering gear - providing too much boost for right turns (different set of valves than left turns).

Anyone concur or disagree?
