Windshield Repair Kits?

I know there have probably been numerous threads about this topic in the past, but I am a newbie and only viewed the first three pages of this forum but does anyone have opinions on what kit works best for the average-everyday star/spider windshield fracture? :)

Check with your insurance agent first. Some companies will pay to have the windshield repaired, with no expense to you. They figure it is cheaper to repair it than to have to replace it, even with the your deductible.

agreed call ins first, see what coverage you have.

I can't give a name of a kit, but I have used one to slow down a spiderweb until I could get it fixed. I was just trying to get it home on a road trip so i just grabbed what the truck stop had on the shelf. It worked but the glass was still replaced when I got home.

Yep, most insurance companies pay for the repair vs laying out for a new glass, and you paying a deductible. And at least ours,(St.Farm),goes even further. If the chip is in the field of view of the driver, the area the wiper covers as it sweeps, it's an instant replacement. And no charge. And before you ask, we have $500 deductible on both collision and comprehensive damages.

They're take on it, a repair no matter how good can leave a small distortion in the glass, and that spot is a magnet for your eyes. You subconsciously are looking at that spot all the time. And not at the road and what's going on in front of you.

And the windshield in any vehicle with an airbag, is part of the restraint system. It's designed to control the airbag's deployment. A damaged windshield can't do that. It will explode when the bag hits it, rather then contain it. Leaving you to eat the steering wheel, and the insurance company to pay big time medical bills.

Insurance companies exist to make money, not spend it. They know it's cheaper in the long run to replace a windshield then to pay out medical bills.

Make the call.

Good Stuff. Thank You all for the input. I have State Farm and will be contacting them ASAP. What a great forum!

Report back because if Shelby427 is right, I might have to make the call and see if they want to honor this.
