thinking about doing the LED dash lights

1) i have seen superbrightLEDs.com mentioned - can anyone confirm if the are simply unplug the old bulbs and plub in new ones and you are good... no other mods needed?

2) is there a thread anywhere for this?

silver rubi 10-14-2012 01:09 AM

schwag27 10-14-2012 01:45 AM

19 frickin' pages and no pics on a YJ swap... total bummer.

silver rubi 10-14-2012 01:56 AM

Check superbrightleds... I think it'll tell you what you need. Sorry it wasn't any help.

schwag27 10-14-2012 02:06 AM

yeah no doubt - totally appreciate the help!

silver rubi 10-14-2012 02:11 AM

Of course. Getting ready to do the switch In my Rubi.

mcseang 10-14-2012 12:59 PM

it is simple, just access the bulbs and change them. the light is a diode so polarity must be correct. twenty minute project start to finish

schwag27 10-14-2012 02:45 PM

yeah i was just kind of surpised that there have been no pictures of them!

seems like simple plug and play - i might have to be the first!!!!

Did my 93 YJ and love it. Hardest part was to get them in the right way, just test before you completely reaseamble.

Good to know. Thanks!

I got my LED's yesterday & installed them today. I read in another thread about this: just remove any screw that seems to be in your way. All you want to get at is behind the display clusters. You'll see once you get into it. If you don't change the heat/air bulbs, which are #74 at Super Bright LED's, then all you need to replace are 7 bulbs #194 & pick your colors. There's 4 in the Tach & Speedo cluster & 3 in the rest. I also have a YJ & mine is a '95. It was so easy.

schwag27 10-23-2012 09:22 PM

how many #74s did you need?

Xpress 10-23-2012 10:49 PM

What year is your YJ? There are 2 generations of YJ, both use a different number of bulbs.

schwag27 10-23-2012 10:55 PM

88 - dash looks just like Jiberias

RockinWrangler77 10-24-2012 12:21 AM

TRM627 10-24-2012 12:31 AM

i want to do mine also i have a 95 wrangler i want all the dash lights changed every single one, so which bulbs do i get and how many? haha i have seen so many mix ups on different threads, some people say they have some spots on there guage missing color i don't want that

Beach-Bum 10-24-2012 01:08 AM

U need 6 - 194's for all the gauges

AV8R 10-24-2012 09:44 AM

The main thing to consider from older generation YJs and newer is that the older YJs need the 360degree bulbs or you will get hot spots on the tach and speedo. The newer YJs illuminate from the back so you can get by with LED bulbs that aren't 360degree.

Xpress 10-24-2012 10:39 AM

1987-1990 YJ's require 10, 360* bulbs:

Miniature Wedge Base LEDs | LED Car Bulbs | Super Bright LEDs

1991-1995 YJ's require 6 bulbs, of any wide beam angle:

194 LED Bulb - 4 LED Wedge Base | Miniature Wedge Base LEDs | LED Car Bulbs | Super Bright LEDs

TRM627 10-24-2012 12:10 PM

so the 6 bulbs will light up which guages?

Beach-Bum 10-24-2012 11:32 PM

6 bulbs will light up your Tach, Speedo, temp, oil press, fuel and volt. Will not light up your 4x4 indicator or idiot lights between the tach and speedo. It will also not light your hvac controls. Those are #74 bulbs I believe

Hey, mine is a '95.

Jiberias 10-25-2012 12:18 PM

I had a few questions about this upgrade in the beginning & all of my concerns disappeared once I began. The biggest was what will I find back there? The job was Jeep beginner level, perfect for me. All I found out of place was sand & dirt.
Here is the info from my receipt:

QTY: 3 WLED-xHP5: 194 LED Bulb- 5 SMD LED Wide Angle Wedge Base -WLED-BHP5:

QTY: 4 WLED-xHP5: 194 LED Bulb- 5 SMD LED Wide Angle Wedge Base- WLED-RHP5:

I listed it 2x because I used 2 colors. 4 bulbs for speedo & tach & 3 bulbs for the rest. Bulb #74 is for the heat which I didn't purchase.
Also the bulbs I bought are 360 degree. The total for what I got came to $44.64. For sure allot of bang for the buck!

95orangeYJ 10-25-2012 12:50 PM

Buy one more light and change the color of the 4x4 light. I did mine in res and matches all of my gauges.
