so I know its not a cj but....
 
this is the closest I can find. 1975 dj-5. mail truck. 2wd 232 i6 727 tourquflight with 3.07 posi in back. Carter yf carb keeps cutting out. ive rebuilt it and still floods and cuts out. New float, jet everything. getting frustrated any suggestions?

few questions: does it cut out while your driving or while it just sitting? two issues I had with my CJ carter were clogged metering tubes(looked like two fangs sticking down) had to clean them with a very thin needle.. the other issue was related to vacumme leaks.. try a very light application of soapy water an see if anything starts to bubble.. one line at a time. if it bubbles up that is a leak..

it floods mostly while driving and thats when it cuts. mostly just need to have the rpm up. its really rich at idle, tried adjusting it to no avail

its a Carter yf. a 1 barrel. its a new float.

I never got my original carter to work well. I tried adjusting a new float a bunch of times and never could get it just right, went with the old one. The biggest improvement I got out of it was by soaking it in carb cleaner for a couple days. Was working fairly well until the (brand new practically) needle valve started sticking, and then I gave up and put an edelbrock in it. An aftermarket carb and an HEI conversion are both well worth it (the HEI has paid for itself in gas a few times over by now I'm sure, HUGE increase in MPG)

thank you. ill look into an aftermarket carb then. any suggestions? I want to keep it bolt on.

Holley makes both 2BBL and 1BBL carbs that will fit depending on which intake you have. I don't think edelbrock ever made a 1BBL that will bolt up to the 1BBL "diamond shaped" intake ports, but they do (or did) make a 2BBL that will bolt up to the rectangular 2BBL intake. If your primary consideration is bolt up compatibility, look at Holleys :)

Holley carbs are generally more tolerant of driving off camber. Only reason I use edelbrocks is because I "grew up" with em (I'm a reformed muscle car guy) and I can rebuild one in short order without taking it off the engine. they are retard simple and easy to tweak.
