Hands Free calling

Just got a new Wrangler with the Media Center 430N(RHB), when I bought it I did not get the Uconnect® Phone and Voice Command are vehicle options which must be ordered separately. Did not know about the lack of the simple Blue Tooth option.

Has anyone ordered an installed? Does anyone have any idea what the dealer installation cost?

TrueBlueJK 10-15-2012 07:43 PM

I didn't know you could get the 430N without uconnect.

Yeah, my dealership had one on the lot like this, seemed silly. 430N comes as just a Nav unit unless you order the connectivity group with it. 730N comes with Bluetooth/voice control standard, but you have to get connectivity to get the EVIC, USB, and steering wheel buttons for it. The Bluetooth being built into the 730N is part of why it costs more, and why the connectivity group for it is significantly cheaper ($160 on 730 vs. $485 on 430)

Director 10-15-2012 08:17 PM

"I didn't know you could get the 430N without uconnect. " me neither, are you saying that they will want 400+ for bluetooth?

xsdbs 10-16-2012 10:52 AM

look online for the Mopar kit PN 82212159 and also the optional USB / iPod cable PN 82212160. You can get the parts and do the install yourself. EASY.
Then you'll need to take the vehicle and have it flashed for code ""RSP". They will try to charge you an hour but it doesn't take more than 15 bminutes. Tell them you'll pay 1/2 hour.

Blue tooth installation

Has anyone seen an installation video for installing the hands free calling option on a wrangler? I was told that there was a post on the forum. I can not locate, new to the site.:surrender:

Geoscene 10-18-2012 02:26 PM

The Connection option also includes the steering wheel controls and an upgraded LED information center in the dash. In addition to voice prompts, the nav unit will display the turn prompts on the information center display. I was glad I opted for the connect option

panthermark 10-18-2012 02:28 PM

Yeah....it can be installed afterwards...but it isn't quite as clean.

It is one of those items that is best ordered from the factory. I'm sure there are some videos of an install on e-bay.

What option are you talking about?

The Connectivity Group option from the factory. $495 (unless your order the 730) for the 2013's.

  • Uconnect® Voice Command with Bluetooth Communicate virtually hands-free with an in-vehicle, voice-activated system that allows you to talk using your Bluetooth®-compatible phone.
  • Electronic Vehicle Information Center

What do you mean by "it's not quite as clean"?

I don't know of a video, but here's a link to the install guide. The instructions are good thru the current build (MY13)

The USB port isn't "mounted", no EVIC, and if I remember correctly...you may not have the controls on the steering wheel as well.

Nothing earth shattering, just one of those things that are better from the factory.

That pretty much sums it up.

xsdbs 10-20-2012 10:43 AM

Ok, I got it now. I just wasn't sure what you meant.

So, there are no aftermarket kits which have the steering wheel controls included? I'm sure I saw this somewhere (it had the buttons for the wheel). My JKR was supposed to have the connectivity package, but the one they found did not have it.

It seems incredibly lame to have an outboard set of buttons stuck to the dash and still have the idiot plastic placeholders in the middle of the steering wheel control cluster. There really should be a way to fix this.

I don't if it was this forum or another forum, but I do remember seeing somebody say that they just finished installing the connect buttons on their steering wheel. Maybe that part is now available?

This is what I've found:

Uconnect FYI

There is a part number for the switch, which is the EVIC control panel: 56046405AB

I just called my sales guy and told him that I was disappointed in the process I've been going through. I had an 8:00 appointment for the install, but the service guy was in a meeting and nobody pulled him out until 8:30. By that time my wife was fuming. I wanted to stick around because I was 99% certain that what they were going to do was the outboard install BS. I gave the part # to the sales guy. Hopefully this will get resolved.

Back to Director's question, "Does anyone have any idea what the dealer installation cost?" I got a price today for the module, microphone, cable, and activation of $617.80 . Not sure it is worth it. Think I will get a price from several dealers, then decide.

xsdbs 12-07-2012 07:34 AM

1) I don't know of a video on the installation but the install manual can be found at the link below:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/?jd7di...tall guide.pdf

2) If you can install a radio, you can do this install. Look online for the kit PN 82212159 and the optional USB / iPod cable PN 82212160. You find them both for around $300.
3) After you do the install, you'll need the vehicle flashed to code "RSP". Call around and you'll find a dealer to do it for about $50.

Good info, and thanks for the Mopar guide. Certainly good for cable routing. I found this video of gaining access to the radio. It shows a couple of more screws to remove on the 2011 models, and the whole dash comes off, not just the center section. With the Mopar guide and this, it looks do-able.
