Clevis Mount On A Factory Tj Bumper
Would I Be Able To Weld A Clevis Mount With A D-ring On A Factory Bumper And Not Have It Fail? I Am Wanting To Upgrade My Bumpers But Dont Want To Pay An Arm And Leg To Get Something That Looks Good. The Aftermaket Bumpers Such As The Warn Bumpers Are Priced Ok But Look Weak And Are Too Skinny In My Opinion. I Want To Weld The Clevis Mounts On Myself But Am Afraid The Stock Bumpers Would Fail. Any Imput?

This Is The Mount Im Thinking Of Putting On The Factory Bumper BUT AM WORRIED ABOUT THE FACTORY BUMPER FAILING.

Well in my opinion the bumper will fail, the metal is very thin. I bought aftermarket bumpers that look like warn bumpers on ebay ,front and rear for $350. My bumpers are 50 times stronger than stock. I have been yanked out and yanked several people out many times and no problems. I would spend a few $ on new bumpers or just use the tow hooks you already have and by the way it takes a lot less time to put a tow strap on a tow hook then is does to put one on a clevis.:D
good luck Mitch

The stock bumper is too thin for anything serious in mods.

Look into - they've got some good bumpers starting at around 160 or so; and sell all kinds of cool weld-on goodies you can throw on them.

Those are cast iron made for bolt on installation. Can you even weld cast iron? Even if you could it would take so much heat for that thickness you would burn through the thin factory metal.

If you want to keep your factory bumper, what is wrong with using the recovery hooks already there? But I definately agree with the others. Your factory bumper is way to thin to modify. That is why they make aftermarket ones.

Until I get money for my new bumpers I was going to make Blocks to mount where the Tow Hooks would go and make the shackle mounts. That way it is on the frame not the bumper. But the Ebay bumpters are a great deal but I don't know if they will look good for long.

Those Ebay Bumpers Just Look Really Cheap, Too Short, And Too Thin. Would I Be Able To Winch Out Using One Of My Tow Hooks Or Whould It Break? I Mena If I Was Using A Snatch Block.
