Do you have a set up to produce the 121 jigawatts needed to power the flux capacitor.

Dextreme 10-29-2012 03:59 PM

I heard this is a better time machine if you don't have a Flux capacitor:

You dont have a timing belt you have a chain.

Jerry Bransford 10-30-2012 09:11 AM

2.4L or 4.0L engine?

Slater451 10-30-2012 12:33 PM

If its the 2.4. Take it to a good shop you trust or the dealer. It's gonna cost ya a couple hundred bucks but it will be done right. I tried to do mine my self and it was a nightmare trust me just have it done professionally !

Jd03 10-30-2012 02:11 PM

Thanks slater. And Melissa its a belt

Slater451 10-30-2012 02:16 PM

. Like I said I tried to do mine my self. I got it running great but the darn thing would hit the rev limiter at 3200 rpms. It was like a half tooth off I guess but it was just better on my sanity to have it done. Good luck and enjoy your TJ!

Follow the procedure in the service manual. Everything you need to know is there.

Did the check engine light still come on when you hit the rev limiter at 3200 Rpms. I'm having the same problem on my 06 and the only code I get is camshaft crankshaft missalignment. This is keeping me from getting it inspected would greatly appreciate some help.

RUBI 4 MY MRS 05-31-2013 05:43 PM

What is the actual code you are getting? What engine do you have?

The 2.4l and I believe it's p0016

RUBI 4 MY MRS 05-31-2013 08:26 PM

Have you recently replaced the timing belt? The P0016 code is from the cam & crank sensors are out of sync. When the crank sensor sees TDC the cam sensor is not seeing the cam being where it is expected to be. The sensor monitors the exhaust cam. It sounds like it is a tooth off.

Yes replaced the belt also replaced the camshaft sensor. Everything I clear the code with the computer and drive it, it hits 3000 Rpms light cuts bake on same code. The marks on the came an crank are dead on by eye. Do you know of another way to check it other then eye sight? I was also worried about valve damage but it runs fine until that code comes up.

RUBI 4 MY MRS 05-31-2013 09:53 PM

Did you set the sensor clearance to 0.030”? I don’t think that should affect the sync but be sure it is set. The rev limit of about 3000 is the engine going into “limp home” mode. If you reset the CEL & let the engine cool down completely then start it & let it idle more than likely the CEL will return at about 160 (& setting the limp mode).

You might have to put a straight edge across the center of the cam sprocket bolts to make sure the marks line up & be sure the TDC marks line up on the bottom gear. If you don’t back the exhaust cam off notch before setting the belt it is very easy to have the cam one tooth off when you tension the belt.

Gofast 05-31-2013 10:18 PM

I set the spacing for the cam sensor. I will recheck the timing and try to reset the cel in the morning and let you know what happens.

Gofast 06-01-2013 11:39 AM

Ok I double checked everything. The other codes i had went away still stuck with p0016 showing up. Any ideas on what it would cost to have a shop fix the problem?

Slater451 06-01-2013 12:14 PM

I finally got my fixed after trying it my self. I ended up at the dealership.... They chared like 200 or so maybe a bit less. It wasn't too bad But just because the 2.4L is do finicky It was worth it!

Gofast 06-01-2013 12:32 PM

Do you recall what the dealership did?

Slater451 06-02-2013 12:40 AM

They retimed it. It was a tooth off i guess. But as far as I know that's all they did. No sensors or anything like that.

Gofast 06-02-2013 12:53 PM

Thank you I'm going to try and give it one last shot with setting the timing.

RUBI 4 MY MRS 06-02-2013 01:18 PM

Use a straight edge across the cam sprockets if needed. I'm betting the exhaust cam is 1 tooth too far counter clockwise from where it should be. Don't turn the engine looking at the cam marks, use the crank marks to TDC. Then see where the cam marks are.

Gofast 06-02-2013 03:19 PM

Timing off half a tooth never thought of the straight edge trick really helped

RUBI 4 MY MRS 06-02-2013 05:15 PM

So is it reset & no codes?
