Hi everyone,

Just ordered my new Jeep from the factory. Billet silver 2013 Wrangler Unlimited Rubi. All the helpful posts here assisted our decision despite the fact Consumer Reports rates this beast 20 out of 100. I guess they just do not get why people buy a Jeep.

I have never owned a Jeep before, but just like we bought a Beamer when we moved to Germany, we had to get a Jeep when moving to the USA. (I am originally Canadian, but please don't flame me over that ;-)

To be honest this vehicle will suit our lifestyle much more as we are often camping, hiking, biking, etc. and having a vehicle that can take you just about anywhere will be a huge advantage. Also I have never cared much about creature comforts. (I was already sold when I heard there were plugs in the floors so you could hose out the inside, although I am not sure how this works with the leather trim model we bought).

So...any advice for a first time Jeep owner moving to San Diego? Once I have some experience driving it I have my sights set on trying out the Rubicon trail. In the meantime I will have to settle for a 4x4 simulator until we get our Jeep delivered.

Cheers, Tony

Can't understand ever leaving Canada for too long... Although I'd much rather be in Southern California right now. November sucks in Canada. I'll be waiting all this month as well for my Rubicon Deep Cherry. Up here it doesn't get so hot so darker colors are OK. I think getting Silver for SanDiego is a smart choice.

Well, since many German highways have no speed limit, this has not been a problem. I travelled from Ulm to Füssen (where the inspiration for the Walt Disney Castle is located, Schloss Neuschwanstein) once early Sunday morning and averaged about 120 mph. And had to use the slow lane a few times to let the fast cars go by. Surprisingly the accident fatality rate here is one of the lowest in the world. (On the other hand people really do not speed when there IS a posted speed limit). Something to be said for getting it out of your system.

However, not so many off road possibilities here, that is what we are looking forward to in the US, and the Jeep will take the bite out of having to drive 70 everywhere by opening up other possibilities...
