Snows about to hit and from what I read on another thread (about it wanting to switch ends) makes me think about running studded winter tires. I had a Dakota with a long wheel base and never used studs, but with such a short wheelbase are they needed for hwy driving?

Studs aren't for snow, they are for ice. yes they are for hiway driving, won't do anything off road.

Are they legal in your state?

Yes. We run them on the office cars. BTW they work great in the snow too.

My main question was does the wrangler need it more than another vehicle would, due to the wheel base.

I'm not sure if they are needed more than a vehicle with longer wheel base but I just ordered a set of studded firestone winterforce tires.

I run a set of 315 75R16 Good Year Duratracs studded. They do great in both snow and ice and offer assistance in braking.
