Help For A Newbie - Troubleshooting Why My Wrangler JK Won't Start

Hey All,

I could really use some help.
I live in Boston (kenmore square area) and I park my 08' Wrangler JK
in a spot a mile or so away.
I went to go start my Jeep this morning and nothing happened.
All I hear is a click and if I put my foot on the brake, the pedal is really firm and won't depress.

From limited knowledge, I assume this is the battery or potentially spark plugs, but I would really hate to fumble through (and I do mean fumble) a fix of those things, only to discover it's some other cause.

If anyone is in the Boston area tomorrow/this weekend and could help me out, I would be hugely appreciative (lunch/dinner, gas, and anything else you need is on me).

This is totally a side project, but I bought some skid plates (oil pan, evap, and control arm) that I planned on installing this weekend along with another external lighting system and if anyone wants to help out with that, I would love a helping hand for those mods too - obviously getting the darn thing to start has priority -.

Let me know if any of you good souls in the Boston area could help!

Shoot me an email at madgokrtr@gmail.com

Thanks!!

-Miles

Im thinking loose or dirt battery terminal, bad battery or starter not the plugs it would run with bad plugs or even crank over

Thanks for the insight.

Do you think if I can jump start it and get it over to a pep boys or something, they could diagnose the problem pretty simply?

Best,

-Miles

BU student?

Do you get any interior lights when opening the door? Sounds like a battery to me. 4 years is about how much you can get out of a battery, assuming it is the original. I will say it is not spark plugs - could be ignition, but doubtful. Do you have AAA? If you do get them to come down and test the battery/alternator. If you do not have AAA I suggest getting it. Let me know what happens.

Edit: Yes, bring it to Autozone or something if you get it started. They can test the battery/alternator for you and tell you what the issue is. I stuck a bigger battery in my girlfriend's Accord than what was OEM. More cranking amps the better!

Graduated from BU.

I do get the interior lights.
Tried jumping it today with help from another forum member (thanks Jerret)
with no luck. Doesn't appear to be the battery and I'm not sure I'm competent enough to change the starter.

I joined AAA but I don't know if I could afford to have them come tow my jeep to a mechanic, then pay for a mechanic to fix the problem.
Bummer.

Any suggestions?

sounds like the solenoid either the one on the starter or the salve circuit. turn the key and nothing means no power to the starter and you jumped it witch rules out the battery. you can jump start it and get it to a shop to work on it but its a little tricky and might be a little more then you are wanting to do

if you still need help tomorrow i am a mechanic from cape cod and i will alway help a jeep owner out if i can i can come up there and check every thing and if you buy the parts i will fix it for you

Try having some one tap on the starter while u try and crank it . May sound strange to some people but it has worked plenty times for me in the past .
