OUCH! Yes it is repairable, not easily though, remember this, someone once said to me "Its just TIME and MONEY! If you don't want to go the whole nine, at least use a product to stop that disease from spreading.

Yea I definitely want to stop the cancer. What would be appropriate? Also, is my frame weaker cause of this?

the rust doesn't look like it is on the frame so if thats the case,no your frame is not weakened..I would remove the body mount,clean the rust off with a grinder,spray it down for a couple of days with rust converter,cap it with some new steel,paint it and reinstall the body mount....others may have better ideas but that's how I would do it

Miguedona21- the metal around that mount is shot, but there is good news that will save you a lot of headache. Check out this company from Wisconsin, Classic Enterprises at Classic Enterprises - Restoration, Reproduction Parts for Studebaker, Jeep & Ford. They make full OE replacements for the torque box (the metal box that mates the body mounts to the tub). I ordered both sides for my 99 TJ and was 100% impressed with the quality and attention to detail. Their metal work is heavy duty and each torque box is hand signed by the fabricator with their name and 'Made in the USA' which shows they are taking pride in their product. Order these and it will solve your problem for the rest of your jeep's life.

Once you get them, it's just a matter of removing your mounts, grinding out the old box and welding in the new one. Be sure to hit the bolts on the mounts with some PB or similar because if they're like mine they will be fused on there.

Don't wait too long on this either. Now that the metal is rusted and compromised, salt etc from the roads will be blasting in there and you don't want that rust migrating from the torque box into the tub which will just compound the problem.

One final suggestion: before ordering, check the other side of your jeep too. My drivers side was like yours and thought my passenger side looked ok at a glance. On closer inspection, it was starting to flake just a tiny bit and with a little picking, I discovered it was basically held together by some paint and needed replacing too. I saved some money on shipping by ordering both sides at the same time.

This is exactly what I needed, the driver's side is not as bad but it is also starting to flake. Do you know if there are any videos on the process? or is this something I should take to a professional so I dont make matters worse? Thanks for your reply!

No videos that I'm aware of. I took mine to a professional because the new box needs to be welded back in and unless you have a lift, welding on your back requires an additional level of welding skill- or so I'm told. I received quotes of $200 to $400 per side to remove the existing box and weld in the new one. You can hardly tell the repair was made.

yes,overhead welding takes a little more skill than flat welding..that repair would cost me about 5 bucks plus some sweat
